Who will give an opinion on who they think should be play the next Doctor...err, Who?

Asked by ucme (50047points) June 3rd, 2013

For those who remotely care, any preferences on a replacement for Matt Smith? Toss any names you want in there, regardless of any supposed credentials, have fun with it, or be serious…it’s really up to you.

Perhaps they could finally get around to giving it to Benedict Cumberbatch.

Now, Stephen Fry is a quite interesting suggestion. That could work beautifully.

Yeah, nice QI reference.
He’d probably be great, but the absolute perfect choice would have to be Sir Alan of Rickman, can’t see it happening though, with either of those. Apparently they want a relative unknown, Rory Kinnear being the current favourite.

jerv's avatar

I think John Simm would be an interesting choice.

I approve of this thread.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman… the mind boggles.

After Tennant I’m kind of hoping for another sex-on-legs actor, but really anything but Matt Smith is a welcome change.

HOLD THE FRAK ON…

He boinked a pig on Black Mirror, that Rory Kinnear guy. No. The Doctor does not f*k pigs, even if it is to save a princess.

Headhurts's avatar

I agree with @jerv, John Simm would be good.

I know who should play the master: David Mitchell.

glacial's avatar

@jerv How would that work? Could Dr. Who regenerate in the form of one of his nemeses?

ucme's avatar

I had to laugh when I saw that Helen Mirren was quoted at 66/1, yeah right, just give it to fucking Prince Harry & have done with it :/

I would like to see James Nesbitt in the box. Not sure if they’d have him do like Tennent and drop his accent. But I imagine they’ll end up going with a lesser known actor or actress.

fundevogel's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr Matt Smith macheted a cop in a deleted scene from In Bruges. Lobbed his head clean off. Maybe it doesn’t count since it didn’t make the final cut.

ucme's avatar

@Judi Nice one, he’s like the tardis, there’s more to him than meets the eye.

jerv's avatar

@glacial Yes. The Doctor is one of the few Time Lords that cannot control his regenerations. If the Master is on his mind when the time comes…

Seek's avatar

@fundevogel I don’t like Matt Smith anyway.

@jerv He’s got nothing on Romana. She got to catalogue-shop for her regeneration.

Edit: totally read your post incorrectly, @jerv. Ignore me. ^_^

I’d have Chris Ecclestone back in a heartbeat, one series was just not enough, although Tom Baker remains top of the docs…“would you like a jelly baby?”

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Judi Wow, didn’t think of that. I think Peter Dinklage would be fantastic!

Judi's avatar

I have to admit that I didn’t think of it. I am friends with an uber fan on Facebook who seems to be campaigning for him. :-)

glacial's avatar

@Judi Interesting idea, but I think there would be an outcry because he’s not a Brit.

ucme's avatar

Payback for the Brit (Dave Prowse) who played Darth Vader.

Time for a song

glacial's avatar

@ucme I’m partial to this one myself. :)

ucme's avatar

@glacial Those special effects/costumes are better than the real show…genuinely.
@YARNLADY Yeah, i’d already suggested the rickster up there.

YARNLADY's avatar

@ucme oops, sorry, I missed it

I instantly thought Benedict Cumberbatch. I like the idea of Stephen Fry too. Not sure about James Nesbitt @fundevogel, although I like him as an actor.

fundevogel's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr BLASPHEMY!

@Bellatrix I don’t really know what I would expect of Nesbitt as the Doctor I’m just curious. He’s one of those actors I wish I saw more of but it doesn’t really happen unless I dog British media.

Bellatrix's avatar

I liked him as Jeckyll and in a number of other things. He’s very versatile @fundevogel. I don’t doubt he would bring something unusual to the role.

fundevogel's avatar

That’s exactly what I thought, but I do do think the show has done just fine finding excellent new talent so regardless of who they cast I’ll be excited (well unless its one of those few people I know I don’t want to be the Doctor).

Seek's avatar

^ I am 1000% in favor of a female Doctor. In fact, I hereby throw my hat in the running. Are you listening, BBC?

ucme's avatar

@Judi Yeah, as I touched upon earlier, Helen Mirren has been touted as an unlikely contender. I wouldn’t object to a female doc, but she’s just not eccentric enough…maybe Dawn French or Jo Brand, that’d shake things up a bit.

Seek's avatar

I’ll bring my own scarf…

ucme's avatar

Scratch those names, I just thought of the perfect choice, if it’s to be a woman then look no further than Miranda Hart…he shoots, he scores!!

Bellatrix's avatar

Miranda would be a hoot. Yes, let’s get Miranda into the tardis. I want a tardis.
