Automated calls, how do you get rid of them at a business?

Asked by KNOWITALL (29685points) June 7th, 2013

How do you stop all the automated calls coming in for old employees, pharmacy notifications, etc…?

I’e tried staying on the line for (Push 5 if this person no longer works there) but it never happens. It’s driving me crazy!

Think you are stuck with them, until you get the caller notified to stop.
Call the company or pharmacy direct and tell to stop “because the person no longer works here”. Use the caller ID to get the phone number or dial “69 for the phone number.

Yeah, we don’t do caller id here, and I don’t always have time to listen. Should be illegal!! :)

It is not illegal if the contact number was given by an ex-employee for doctor or pharmacy notifications.
The only way to stop in the future is tell all employees that they cannot have anyone call “EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCY”” A Pharmacy call is not an emergency in most cases and if it is an automated call it is definitively NOT and emergency.
I have worked at businesses that it is a written employee rule about contacting an employee at work.

@Tropical_Willie Since I work at a corporate office our turnover is fairly high, so I probably get about 20 a day, super annoying. Thanks though, appreciate that!

Story of my life. There’s a national do-not-call list to supposedly prevent telemarketers calling but that’s not available for business phones. I’m getting all the telemarketing calls aimed at selling stuff to my business, and there’s really nothing I can do about that except with technology on my end to block numbers or callers who block their caller ID. When I get calls and there’s no immediate response to my greeting, I hang up, because that’s an autodialer in use and only after it detects that you’ve picked up it connects you with the next poor sap in the telemarketing boiler room. For your situation, it would seem to me discussing it with management and suggesting a corporate policy would be wise. Everyone has a cell-phone number now. There is no reason they need to give pharmacies and such the switchboard number or department number at their work.

@ETpro Most are past employees but it wastes so much time I need to do something. Listen and get a number.

People have had cellphones for so many years now, I’m surprised that this still a problem.

Pre-cellphones, employees often had to provide their business numbers for personal reasons. If a doctor, pharmacy, hairdresser, repairman, etc. needed to reach the individual during the workday, that was the only option. But, nowadays, you’d think that most employees would simply provide their cellphone numbers and keep their private matters out of the office phone system.
