Smokers- do you notice that one type of cigarette stains your fingers more than another kind?

Asked by WillWorkForChocolate (23163points) June 11th, 2013

Just curious. I used to smoke Marlboro Lights or Ultra Lights, but switched to the Marlboro Special Blends because of the price difference. I’ve been smoking for 22 years, and never noticed discoloration of my “smoking fingers” until I switched.

Has this ever happened to you?

And for Pete’s sake, do not leave “Eewww, smoking is so nasty” comments. Thanks.

lol I’m sorry. I just had to! :0)

Seriously though, I smoke Marlboro menthols and I’ve never noticed and staining on my fingers. I had to double check my fingers before I posted this. lol
Aaaaand now I want a cigarette!

I smoke Djarums (cloves) and never have any stains on my fingers. Whenever I run out and occasionally bum a cig from someone else I get these narsty yellow stains, can’t stand it.

Nicotine patches and e-cigs don’t stain at all. :)

When I smoked Marlboro Light 100s, I had no stains. only a callous on my “Bic” thumb

@Blueroses I tried to go to e-cigs, bought a nice kit and all with some good flavors. I’m fuckin allergic to them. How shitty is that?

It’s been 40 years since I stopped smoking, but I can still remember the stains on my teeth and fingers, and that awful tobacco smell on my beard. Yuck!

I smoke Marlboro 27’s and have done for about two years now. I actually don’t have any stains whatsoever, but I have noticed them on my fingernails when I smoke rolled tobacco, especially unfiltered Drum.

I’m an ex-smoker (for about 3.5 months now). As a smoker (for about 21 years), I did not smoke a variety of brands. I am naturally resistant to changes like that! It’s an interesting question though. I have not had the finger staining in many years. I had always attributed it mostly to chain smoking. When I was younger, I’d party and chain smoke. These were the times I’d get the yellow fingers. Thinking about it now though, I can see two other possible reasons for the staining. I used to smoke my cigarettes right down to the filter. I also used to smoke regular cigarettes (for most of my adult years, I smoked very light ones). My brand was always DuMaurier.

@Blueroses I’ve been using an e-cig as well. I wouldn’t have quit without it. Love it!

Yep. In better times, I smoked Virginia Slims and never had stains. Now I’m smoking icky Pall Malls, and notice that my fingernails will get yellow. Blech.

Katniss's avatar

@augustlan Just put of curiosity, did you switch from VS to Pall Mall because of the difference in price?
I tried doing that, but I found that Pall Mall’s made my chest hurt.

augustlan's avatar

@Katniss Yeah. I can’t afford the good stuff right now. The Pall Malls have given me a smoker’s cough, which I never had before. :(

@augustlan They did that to me too! Kinda makes you wonder what the hell is in them.
