Would buying the VCR/DVD recorder be the best way to go?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) June 13th, 2013

I’ve got old family VHS tapes that I want to transfer to DVD.
I found this recorder for about $175 (including shipping) and this review at Amazon.

I could pay someone to do it, but I have about 12 tapes. Further, not all of the tapes are full. It would require some further editing to get a smooth finished product.
I got some pricing from a video production place that was a little confusing (Something about $17.99 for the first blah blah and $omething for every blah blah after that) but doing rough calculations at the time it seemed to me I’d be looking at well over $175 to get them transferred.

Also, I wonder if I could pick up some pocket change transferring other people’s VHS tapes to DVD?

I appreciate your thoughts and opinions Jellies.

Given what you have to copy, getting the combo deck will end up being a lot cheaper, and, as you say, you could do it for other people, even if just as a favor and not for money.

I say, go for it!

I have a huge VHS movie collection, and though I rarely watch any of them, I wanted to be able to do so without going to the expense of transferring them to DVD. So I bought a combo deck and have enjoyed being able to play a VHS when I want to. I’m glad I went that route. I say buy the $175 deck (although seems to me mine was a lot cheaper).

Well, I’m not looking to just watch the VHS tapes. I want to transfer them to DVD so I can make copies and share them with the kids. This one will transfer the VHS to DVD. It’s actually $150, shipping is $20.
