What is a good site to keep track of book reviews?

Asked by victord66 (201points) June 15th, 2013

I have tried using goodreads, but discovered that my book reviews are not private. I would like to keep an online journal of my book reviews like goodreads or shelfari but want them to be totally private. I know I could start an online blog, but I like the way these other sites link to Amazon. Any suggestions?

I found this article in Publishers Weekly, talking about alternatives to Goodreads, now that it has been taken over by Amazon (that’s why I left Goodreads). They recommend a few sites, including:

Riffle (“We never post without your permission” – evidently well-reviewed, but I can’t find a privacy policy on the main page)

Zolabooks (I’m not linking this because I’m pissed that it shut down my browser, causing me to lose this post!)

Bookish (privacy policy here)

Booklikes (privacy policy here)

If you want them private, why post them at all? Just write them in Word files and keep them on your own hard drive. You can even password-protect them in Word. Nothing on the Internet is really private.

I like LibraryThing for posting book reviews. I believe you can keep your listings private, but I haven’t actually tried that. There’s a LibraryThing connection to Amazon.

If what you want is to have a link to Amazon’s book page for the books you write about, it’s easy enough to copy and paste the link into your own Word file. Hyperlinks are enabled. Setup options in Word allow you to either just click the link to follow it or use Ctrl+click.

@Jeruba You can keep a private library on Library Thing or make individual listings private, though as someone with a public account and some private listings I have noticed that sometimes a private listing shows up in the random selection of my titles displayed in my page.

I don’t think there is an option for private reviews though.
