Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard won't accept login credentials.

Asked by Mariah (25883points) June 27th, 2013

My friend’s computer suddenly won’t accept her username and password on her computer’s user account login screen. She hasn’t changed them recently. She just installed some updates (she doesn’t know what for) and was told to reboot, and when she did she couldn’t login anymore. Any help?

Important question. – - – Apple updates or , . . someone else?

She said they were Apple updates but I mentioned that such things can be imposters and that was news to her.

Contact Apple, does she have Apple Care? If not have her call the number on AppleCare for single incident. If you are close to an Apple retail store; go and see the genius on duty. Apple may do it for free if it was their upadte that “bricked” the laptop.

1–800-MY-APPLE.

(Ask me why I have this number memorized.)

Does she happen to have the Snow Leopard DVD? You can boot into that and reset the password.

Hold Apple+S when booting to enter single user mode
#sh /etc/rc
#passwd yourusername
#reboot

Thanks all. We were able to change her password in single user mode, using some instructions I found on Google. Yay!
