Do you care that today was the start of the 100th Tour de France?

Asked by gondwanalon (22871points) June 29th, 2013

For 3 decades I was a cycling fan who subscribed to Cycle Sport Magazine, watched all the big races live and have many on DVD’s.

I use to revel in the great courage, pain and perseverance that cyclists put themselves through. I still believe the professional cycling is the toughest of sports where there are no time-outs. Also severely injured cyclists are expected to get back onto their bikes to finish the stage which could cause even more injury.

Recently Armstrong stated that his life is ruined since he confessed to using performance enhancing drugs in his 11 Tour de France races. But he also ruined the sport of cycling for many fans I’m sure because we don’t know what is real and what is fake anymore.

Since the Lance Armstrong fiasco, I just don’t give a hoot anymore. I didn’t even care enough to watch todays stage nor do I care to watch any of the 20 stages to follow.

I’m so done with professional cycling. Are you like me?

Never cared, and I don’t now. Was born in France, but now I live in Canada, and I also don’t give a fuck about hockey.

I have not heard anything about Germany invading France.

I boycott watching it. It’s all a huge lie. It’s all about finding the best way for doping.

Never cared, never will. And it has nothing to do with Lance Armstrong.

I love it, along with the tennis at Wimbledon, it fills the sporting gap between football seasons.
Looking forward to another Brit winning in Chris Froome, the mountain stages are epic.
That fucking coach driver must have been bricking it though, what a tit!!

All those scandals have ruined it for me. So, no.

Never cared. I mean, I think it is cool when so many countries get together for a sporting event whether it be the Olympics, World Cup, Tour de France, car race, but I never was impressed by Lance Armstrong, I always found him to be very odd, and I never watched or paid attention to the Tour de France regardless of whether Lance Armstrong was racing or not. I am more and more disgusted by what athletes do to their bodies. The extreme is too extreme for me, and add in drugs and I am out. I look at some of the girls In gymnastics for instance and many of them look like they have very distorted bodies now. It bothers me. Do parents have to worry about their kids being in sports now because they have to keep up with the kids who are using steroids and eating in unhealthy manners to build bulk? It really bothers me.
