Why does Iggy Pop look like a cachectic shar pei?

Asked by syz (35938points) July 8th, 2013

Kudos to Iggy for his “I’m not ashamed to dress like a woman because I don’t think it’s shameful to be a woman” stance, but when I saw this image it reminded me of my reaction each and every time I see him – why is he so wrinkled? Wrinkles are normal, I get that, but he looks abnormal to me. Does he have a condition, or is it just how he’s aged?

Years of drug abuse combined with his age have made his skin go, err…pop.

@ucme I second your response.

He’s no more wrinkled than Keith Richards or Mick Jagger!

Holy Jeebus! Looks like all the sex, drugs, and rock n roll have taken their toll on poor Mr. Pop.
He was never an attractive man by any means, but wow! He looks bad.
His face kind of reminds me of Zelda from Pet Sematary.

Yay! A new word for me today. Thanks for that, @syz. No thanks for the new image of Mr. Pop.

Lots and lots of sun without enough sunscreen? Look at what the sun did to this long-haul truck driver.

Well..as always, genetics play a huge role in ones aging process regardless of drug or alcohol abuse.
Sun damage as well.
I have a friend in her early 40’s that neither smokes, drinks, drugs but is an avid horsewoman and looks like the Marlboro lady at 44. lol
I am almost 54 and have smoked, used drugs in my past, still use marijuana on a fairly regular basis, have been in the sun, have a few drinks on a regular basis and am also a fair skinned, blue eyed, blonde.

I too have spent hours riding trails on horses, river rafting, gardening and I am always being told how wrinkle free and nice my skin is inspite of leading a moderately “abusive” lifestyle starting in the 70’s.
90% of the aging process is genetically influenced IMO.
Check out my face…nobody would know I have been more of a party girl than not, and no, no cosmetic proceedures for me.

James Newell Osterberg, Jr.is 66 years old. As others have said, he has abused his body for at least 45 of those years.

I give him credit for being able to walk around….

And he’s so veiny. Ew.

I vote for drugs and bad luck.

He wrote a damn nice letter in your link, @livelaughlove21. That’s got to count for something.
