IPad Mini Users: How do you like it so far?

Asked by _Whitetigress (4378points) July 8th, 2013

I want to buy this for my wife. All she does with my laptop is browse the internet. She’s not really the Pro-Application type. So do you think the mini would do for her? She’s also mentioned interest in that Windows tablet transformer thingy. What do you think about that?

It’s excellent, unless you and she are used to the Retina display on the large one, in which case you’ll be sorely disappointed by the resolution on the small one. I returned my Mini for that reason. Wait for the new Mini with Retina.

I am also in camp Retina. I wanted a mini but the resolution killed it for me. I have switched between retina and non-retina and it hurts me.

The good news is there should be a mini-retina in October. So wait a bit if you can.

Also! Can you unzip .Rar or .Zip files with an iPad? My wife likes to download music from this one site called http://www.birp.fm/playlist/2013 it’s just a bunch of music files zipped into one large folder.

Or is it best to transfer from my laptop iTunes to the iPad?

I am unaware of a way to do that since iOS lacks a way to mange files.

iTunes to iPad will work.

I just picked up an iphone App on the 4th of July sale called Zip Tool which says that it handles zip and rar files.

I haven’t used it yet but presumably it would work on iPad mini as well?

But there’s also a whole bunch of similar apps which do he same, some of which would work with iPad?

My bro-in-law, in spite of his protestations, was persuaded to purchase an iPad mini. It turns out to be the love of his life.

He took it to France for a month’s vacation and used it for everything except keeping the Hollandaise from curdling. Email, photos, language translation, mapping routes, research on restaurants, sightseeing and schedule of farmers’ markets.

I have an iPad and love it but it is a bit heavy for travel so I am thinking of adding or placing it with a mini. The tip about waiting for Retina is a good one though.

Way better than the normal iPad. It is much better to hold, keep, and use. It’s a lot cuter, too ^.^
