How can I locate these marriage records?

Asked by nuclear (296points) July 20th, 2013

I am searching for marriage records for a couple married in 1906 in Glassport, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. They are my great grandparents and I require this information in order to apply for my grandmother’s Irish citizenship by ancestry.

If anyone could point me in the correct direction for getting a hold of this certificate, I would appreciate it. From research I haven’t been able to find a phone number or obvious place to order it from. Thank you!

Call the courthouse in Glassport, ask to speak to someone who can help you wade through historical records and ask him or her for some leads. Or ask for a local historian who will also be able to help.

Here’s a site for a history of Glassport, compile in 1976. There may be some useful links if you have an hour or two to play detective.

Type in “Glassport unofficial website” on Facebook also and ask about historians, old records or town hall archives.

And for a small fee, you can find the 1900 and 1910 census information on the genealogical sites.

Ancestry.com; and the sites listed here; http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-10-free-genealogy-websites-to-find-ancestors/

@gailcalled, when I was typing my answer, your response wasn’t here. Strange. We must have bumped into each other in cyberland.

^^^I found the handwritten notes from the 1930 census at my pat. grandfather’s domicile in the Bronx. The census taker wrote that my grandfather was born in Poland, crossed that out and wrote Russia instead. Both were incorrect. He was born in Serej, Lithuania.

Thanks so much!! I’m just in the process of searching now. I will keep you informed with the results. I am over the moon about potentially getting Irish citizenship – if my grandmother gets it, then my mother will also be eligible and myself after her. Very exciting!

^Really? 3 generations down the line? I wonder how far they would be willing to go or what criteria is needed. The Irish must have fairly lenient citizenship requirements.
