Has anyone else heard that moving can make you gain weight fast?

Asked by Aster (20023points) July 31st, 2013

I was pretty happy with my weight in 2009; we had been living in a big house with stairs to the finished basement for ten years. As soon as we moved to a smaller, one story house in January of 2009 I gained twenty pounds! Have you heard of this before? This fact alone makes me want to move to a two story house but he doesn’t like stairs. He believes all older people fall down stairs and break bones and that Facebook is the real culprit !

Were you closer to the kitchen in the new house?

I didn’t know FB had a requirement for two story houses

Maybe this has something to do with the “freshman 15” people talk about about people who move to live at college, too.

Yes; we’re very close to the kitchen now.

I’ve gained weight since we moved to a farmhouse 3 years ago. About 20 lbs. The house we lived in before had access to many hiking and biking trails and I could walk my daughter to school. I was always walking. I have no immediate access to walking paths since we moved to this farmhouse located right off a highway. I gained weight because I became inactive, not because I moved. I could have easily found different ways to exercise my body when I moved, but I didn’t. I became lazy and spent more time on the computer instead.

Stress of moving perchance?

Less exercise?

Aging? With each move, you are older.

Some people are stress-eaters. Regardless of whether the stress has favorable or unfavorable causes, some people start snacking and overeating.

A move is a major life change. It might be a good change, but it’s extremely difficult and requires a person to adjust. That’s all stressful, and it could certainly explain why someone might gain weight after a move.

Have you analyzed what has happened to you and your life in the past 4 years?

No. There must be a second reason related to a life style change.
