No SPOOL HOLDER for my Brothers XL-3100 machine substitution?

Asked by islandantoinette (14points) August 6th, 2013

I have gotten a Brothers XL 3100 sewing machine to try out to see if it works to buy it. IT has NO SPOOL holder on the horizontal one! Can I use the other vertical spool holder to sew? Or will it not work? Or what can I substitute? I don’t want to buy it if it does not sew properly. Thank you Antoinette

Welcome to Fluther! The links below are to a few sites that have replacement parts for that machine. I found several other options in the Google search that I did. If you search for Brother XL 3100 you will find a good sized list. I can’t vouch for any of these companies, but it may be a start to help you find what you need. Happy sewing!

Using the vertical spool pin will work. It’s there to allow you to do double-needle sewing (using two top threads).

It’s me again! Hey found it Thanks if anyone answered! It is still missing a few other pieces but if it seems to sew a few of the stitches I guess it is OK??? to do the other things? It is missing 4 pieces 1 The Buttonhole Foot 2. Zipper Foot 3. Button Sewing Foot 4.Darning Plate. So I guess I can not really see if these features work. IF the machine seems to sew OK like straight, zig zag and I can figure out from the online manual how to try a few other fancy stitches do you all think it will be worth buying? It is only $45 but I need to re make ALL my clothes in the next 3 months as I lost 70 pounds and I have only 4 dresses to wear period! I don’t wear pants. I am going to take apart all my old dresses that were new and remake them. We are moving from Hawaii to Panama in 3 months. Thank you to anyone who has any ideas on this. I have never used one of these fancy machines only the old fashioned kind.
