(Possible NSFW) Reasons for sensitive vagina?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) August 10th, 2013

Sometimes, when I am out cycling, my vagina gets incredibly sensitive. Sometimes I have to stop and get off my bike to let it pass. We have just got back home from a bike ride and I could feel the sensation starting. It’s quite unpleasant when cycling.
It has never happened when using the exercise bike.
Anyone know why?

@Headhurts Forgive me, I have the mind of a randy 14yr old boy, I am trying to grow up…honest!

Headhurts's avatar

@ucme You know it will probably never happen?

A boy can dream can’t he?

I assume it has something to do with the way your seat is hitting you. Try a different position.

You’re going to have to be more specific about what you mean by “sensitive” here.

Where exactly is the sensitivity?
Is it the skin or does it feel deeper?
Does it hurt to the touch?
How long does it take for the feeling to go away?

Around my clitoris, and quite deep feeling. Doesn’t hurt, but I don’t really want to touch it too much while I’m outside. Goes away after about 2 or 3 minutes when off the bike. Same if I just slow down and try to sit more upright for a minute or two while on the bike.

Does your bike happen to look like this, perchance?

My guess is that it’s your position. Switch it up. Or try a more padded seat.

It could be thrush. Sometimes candida can be microscopic and around the vulva and clitoral area. Which can lead to burning. Do you have burning after sex? If this is the only time you experience this then I would consider a few things. The material you wear when you cycle as spandex can be irritating, the material of the seat even and or the hardness.

I read somewhere that cycling can even cause UTI’s in females so maybe consider a more comfortable seat.

I would be almost certain it is the seat or the way you are sitting on it.

@janbb I think you are right, because it doesn’t happen when I am in my exercise bike. I think I tend to lean quite forward which I guess is putting constant pressure on certain parts.

Yes, try repositioning the seat or yourself.

It might also be helpful to raise the handlebars a bit, so you’re not leaning so far forward. Assuming you’re not racing of course.

You could try changing the seat. I have that problem with most bicycle seats. It is because they are narrow and hold most of your weight up from between your legs. If you like to travel long distance, it can suck for women. When I was in Japan I bought my daughter a old fashion bike like most of them use for traveling and shopping.
The seat was wide, cushy and most of your weight ended up on your tush, not your vagina. I could ride her bike a long time with no ill effects. After that I bought a bike here in the states and went to a bike shop and bought a more comfortable seat. If the bike riding is for leisure than just switch out the seat. There are even seats today made of mess so you don’t feel any of the bumps in rough terrain.
