I don't know what to do with my friend when she comes up for vacation. Any ideas?

Asked by Kairi (794points) August 13th, 2013

My friend that I haven’t seen in a year is coming up to NY from NH to visit me. I have no idea what the two of us can do together. I was thinking the movies and my house for swimming, video games, movies, etc. I live in a small community with nothing much but parks, a crappy mall, and a bowling alley. Any ideas of things we could do that wouldn’t break the bank and/or require us to stay home the entire time she’s here?

Where in NY? Are you near parks, hiking trails, mountains, nature preserves for outdoor activities? At this time of year there are county fairs, outdoor concerts, festivals of various kinds (here we have a zucchini jamboree), summer music, theater and dance programs of various kinds, from classical to bluegrass.

I live in a small town in NYS and there are too many choices of things to do here. Anything near your crappy community?

(Given your earlier question, I am afraid to ask whether you have access to a car.)

@gailcalled I’m in the Capital District, about half an hour north of Albany. We have small parks, but that’s it. Neither of us have a lot of money to do much with, so the fair or anything else that costs money is out of the question.

Don’t be afraid to ask. No, I have no car access right now. I might by the time she comes up.

I live fairly nearby, exit two off the Taconic, about 35 minutes SE of Albany.

Wiithout either a little money or wheels, you are in a pickle. I guess taking your nest egg to the races in Saratoga is out?

Ah okay. cool.

haha yeah, basically. I don’t get paid again until after she leaves.

Why not take her up to Lake George and play tourist for a day? Stroll the village, window shop, swim, whatever.

What other interests does she have? Better yet if it’s something you two share.
