How do I call a UK company with their phone number?

Asked by _Whitetigress (4378points) August 14th, 2013

So I’m trying to call about an order I placed with Universal Music (The Major Label) and their number is 0845 070 2036

I’m from the United States. Is there some sort of pre dialing numbers I need to use? For instance in U.S.A. it’s not uncommon to have to press 1–800-before-dialing. Most sites used to list only the 800 number and the 1 had to be pressed prior to dialing.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Drop the 845. It is roughly the equivalent of an 800-number in the states.

Some of the cell phone companies require you to go through a special operator to make international calls. At least they used to, we had problems when my sister was in Africa, it was easier for her to call us.

@elbanditoroso I don’t entirely understand what you mean by “Drop the 845”

First of all I went to the website “saynoto0870” to get an alternate number as a cheaper option to call for you.
With the correct UK code, this is the number you need:
0044 2074715000.
You need to drop the first zero and add 0044 for the UK.

0845 numbers will only work from with in the UK.

First dial whatever you normally dial to get an international number. Then 44 845 070 2036.

BUT UK numbers beginning 08 are not geographical numbers, and sometimes they cannot be dialled from outside of the UK. This is a restriction on your end, not the UK business’s end. The company I work for offers a geographical number as well as the 0845 number, to enable those with difficulties to call from overseas, but I know that some overseas customers can use the 0845 number without any problem.

I suggest emailing the company with your query instead, or just emailing them to ask what their geographical number is.

Or try dialling them from a phone on a different carrier.

Ahah! I didn’t think to ask if you were calling when their office was actually open!

@downtide It did dawn on me when I first called. But I thought there might be some automated type of speaker or something… haha Thanks all!
