What is the point of the 'Follow' button?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) August 15th, 2013

Is there somewhere where you can view the people you follows questions?
Otherwise, what is the point in following someone?

I could never figure it out either. Do people actually use that feature?

Perhaps their questions are sent to the “Suggested for You” section?

When you click “Activity for You” in the upper right area of your computer browser screen, there is a tab that will show you questions from people you follow.

Edit to add: after you click the “Activity for You” you have to click “Just for You” at the top, and then you will see the tab with question from people you follow.

Yes – if you follow someone, their questions will show up as part of the “Just for You” section. I do use the Just for You section but never look at the “People you Follow” tab. I don’t pay any attention to following particularly.

I can’t see the tab for questions from people you follow?

Headhurts's avatar

I found it now, thank you.

I thought it just meant we were buddies, learned something new…lol

I mostly just use it as a symbol of respect for somebody, since I don’t use “Questions for you.”

I find it pretty pointless. I only use it to follow people who follow me, ‘cause, you know, reciprocity is nice.

There isn’t one, a point that is.
Whenever I see someone follow me I respond in kind, it’d be rude not to.

@ucme would you be so kind?

ucme's avatar

@ZEPHYRA Well, if you insist?

Sometimes people follow others that they tend to get along with, or who are similar in ways of thinking. Sometimes these people become offline friends. I usually will not pm somebody if they’re not in my list, and I won’t follow people who don’t follow me back for those reasons (well one of them anyways). This is true for other sites that I frequent too, and many times a poster that I’m ‘friends’ with online will ask me to help them out in a thread where they’re getting smashed, lol.

I think it works like Facebook. When you follow someone it means you want to befriend with that person
