"If anything should happen to me..." When you say this to your spouse, what is it that he/she should do?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) August 16th, 2013

What things/issues would you have him/her put in order “if anything should happen to you”? Or have you never been through this?

…you make the medical decisions with our kids and my best friend and If I died, I don’t want ANYTHING religious anywhere near my funeral, you can cremate or bury me, up to you, whatever is cheaper, and please take care of our children until your death.

My friend has the phone numbers of my children and my other good friends. I haven’t change my health care proxy yet from my Ex because I don’t know who to ask.

I have said this to my boyfriend. He knows my funeral arrangements, where my money is to go, what is to happen to my belongings, and he knows where the letters are to give out to loved ones.

Donate my body to science, no funeral, give my birds to our rescue teacher for new homes, take care of mom, give hope chests to my niece. Easy-peasy. Do I need to add a fluther clause?

Get the red folder from the middle drawer in my desk, meow a lot and then wait for my daughter.

Will, living will, health care proxy and medical directives are in the red folder.

Give my daughter the box on the top shelf of the closet.
Tweeze my chin hairs while I’m in the hospital.
Cremate me when I check out. Do not put on display in an urn or scatter my ashes.
Bury my loose ashes with a copy of East of Eden.

He is not allowed to let me rot inside my own body, a la Terry Schiavo.

When I am dead, he is to donate any part of me that anyone wants.

Absolutely no religious garbage at my funeral, if he has one. None. No, not even a chaplain.

Live a happy life, and put our boy first in everything.

I should add a Fluther clause. Hide my password somewhere, or Auggie’s email address or something.
