How to fall asleep SUPER fast?

Asked by 9molly92001 (31points) August 18th, 2013

Tomorrow I start middle school and I took a Unisom around 9:00. Now it is 12:30 and I cannot sleep whatsoever. Does anybody have a way to fall asleep super fast? Please answer, I have to get up in 5 and a half hours.

Hot milk or dark turkey meat. Hot milk is usually easier to find in the house. Also, turn off the lights. Don’t be sending your mind mixed messages with the stimulation of the computer and/or bright lights. Don’t sleep with a cell phone on in your room. It can alter your brain waves and make it harder to sleep.

Get off the computer, turn out the lights and turn a fan on.

EDIT: I took the Unisom and fell asleep but now I can’t sleep a wink!

Turn off everything and get into bed. Even if you don’t sleep at all you will feel better then if you stayed up dorking around on the computer.

Close your eyes and relax.

Get as comfy as possible and use some imagery. The one that works best for me is imagining myself spiraling slowly down a drain. Lots of folks use the one where you picture a house you know well with all the lights on, then go through each room and switch the light off, making the house darker and darker and then completely dark. I’ve never known the sheep-counting thing to work for anyone, but I suppose it might be worth a shot too – the cliche must come from somewhere, right?

Another thing I sometimes find helpful is white noise. You can download an app or use a site like this.

What grade?

You will not fall asleep unless you are in bed with the lights off. Start there, and count to 100.

@wildpotato Listening to that sound made me have to pee. But that’s just me. It may work to put someone else asleep.

You are taking sleeping aids and you are in middle school? That doesn’t sound good to me.

I assume the OP went back to sleep since this Q was posted 6 hours ago.

To answer the Q, make sure your feet are warm, get into your sleeping position (mine is my left side) lights off, close your eyes and think of one thing over an over. A carrot, a letter, a number, anything, repeat repeat, and you will fall asleep.

What?? It’s only mid August!

jonsblond's avatar

@Katniss My daughter starts school tomorrow. I agree, it’s too early. School didn’t start until after Labor Day when I was in school. I just told another Flutherite recently, “there should be no school or homework when the pool is still open”.

@jonsblond That is insane!! Why not let the kids enjoy their summer?? Damn!!
I agree with you.

Get ready for bed as usual. get a wash cloth wet with very hot water, wring nearly dry.
Lie down in bed on your back and put the cloth over your eyes, then begin to count to 100.

Sweet dreams.

@jonsblond I will never understand why cold states start school in August. It’s just mean. I wish we had a jelly on here who worked for the school board and knew the reasoning behind starting before labor day. Let alone some northern schools don’t have air conditioning and August can be very hot.
