Is cycle day 7 too early to ovulate?

Asked by cheezehead (30points) August 19th, 2013

I got a positive opk on cycle day 7 did the deed then cycle day 18 I get brown discharge and pink when I wipe (sorry TMI) this went on for 4 days like a light period with light cramps. I have very long cycles like clock work and they are always heavy and painful… anyone else experience this trying to conceive? I used clear blue advanced digital ovulation test

from menses to ovulation is usually the variable part of a woman’s cycle. ovulation ot menses is usually a fixed period 12–14 days. Women who have “regular” periods can have an off cycle every now and again. But if it happens more often, you should talk to your gyn.

PS: That’s the text book answer. I always feel weird telling women how they “should” ovulate, but I hope this brings you some peace of mind.

OPK tells you LH surge, which starts slightly before ovulation.

Get a pregnancy kit and see if you are pregnant.

Thank you for your thoughts

Don’t put so much thought into it. Sperm stay alive for up to 4 or 5 days in a woman’s body. If pregnancy was the crap shoot you think it is, there wouldn’t be 7 billion people on the planet. Be patient, it will happen.

@flip86 hit the nail on the head. Spermatozoa survival for several days inside a woman’s body, which provides a favorable environment for endurance. If the woman ovulates within that time, she might conceive.

I just understand the spotting soon after and I don’t understand how I ovulated so early

Some women regularly ovulate five days after the start of the cycle. It is the low end of normal and rare but still considered normal.

Excuse me *I don’t understand the spotting I have never spotted before in my life and I went to the doctor to et a blood test Wednesday the 14th and it was negative still waiting on my normal period

Thirteen years ago, I had a four or five day period, then apparently ovulated within the next two days. That’s how I got pregnant two days after my period, on my wedding day, lol.

So I guess it’s a bit early, but entirely possible.

How long is your cycle typically? A long cycle usually means you would typically ovulate later than day 14. Women ovulate 14 days before they get their period.

Are you working with an RE or just a GYN?

You got tested on the 14th, what cycle day was that?

With my second pregnancy I had spotting before I knew I was pregnant; from the timing it seemed to be with implantation. And yes, you can ovulate early… I had my fourth child as a result of stress apparently causing that to happen, although not as early as you are talking about. It’s also possible your hormones are just out of whack for some reason.

The day I went to see my gyno would have been cycle day 25. I got the positive opk with clear blue on cycle day 7 my period began July 21

cheezehead's avatar

So cycle day 25 (August 14th) my gyno confirmed a negative pregnancy test…. could the opk have been wrong? I used the digital they seem pretty reliable

cheezehead's avatar

Then again this is my first cycle using opk’s because it is my first cycle trying to conceive lol

And, how many days is your usual cycle? Are you late yet? If the blood tests gives. Negative for any HSG below 20, it could e a false negative.

cheezehead's avatar

Normally 30 days. My last period started july 21st my period before that started the last week of June

If it is 30 days, you most likely ovulate around day 16. Did you only have sex on day 7? Or, did you have sex after that during the month also? Any month you could have anything happen though.

August 19 is day 30. So today, the 20th you are officially late with your typical cycle.

The bleeding you described could be pregnancy, it can be other things too. I would do an at home pregnancy just to see if it comes up positive if you have not gotten a full blown period today. Odd bleeding and no cramping can be pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, infection, and there are some others, but I doubt there is any reason to assume infection or something worse at this point.

Why did you go to your gyno for the pregnancy test on day 25? Because of the bleeding?

Try having sex day 15 and 16. Use your ovulation test also if you want.

You don’t feel yourself ovulate? A pain on your side late afternoon that should happen for you somewhere between day 15–17. The pain should alternate each month, left, right, left, right…where your ovary is,

When you ovulate your discharge should be a lot like raw egg whites.

Have sex in a position his ejaculate doesn’t fall right out of you. Missionary is one of the best, but not necessary. Flip on your back and put your knees up for 20 minutes after having sex. Don’t be on top for obvious reasons, gravity is your enemy in that case,

Thank you for the tips I’ve heard of egg white cervical mucous but I still don’t fully understand it. My mom bought me first response digital ovulation kit 20 count so I am going to monitor ewcm along with the tests.

If you can’t tell just by how you feel, or even when you wipe when you go to the bathroom, then near mid month if you touch yourself you should have more discharge and it should be very slippery. You don’t have to reach inside to your cervix, even on your vulva you should be more slippery. You also might notice being more horny that time of month, and your husband might be more interested in sex. I swear my husband is somehow tuned into when I ovulate. But, if you are a new couple you both might be like bunnies anyway all the time, and it might not stand out.

Let us know if you get preggers. :)
