Actually, if you read the comments on that page, it’s filled with loads and loads of people giving accounts of their lighters exploding in their cars.

It does happen. Also, my dog once bit into a lighter and it exploded in his mouth. Luckily he wasn’t hurt, just very surprised, and he sneezed for a long time after.

We used to explode them as kids by throwing them really hard at the ground.
