(NSFW) How long does it take to get over a FruitLax dependence?

Asked by talljasperman (21916points) August 23rd, 2013

FruitLax is a paste given to hospital patients to help become regular. It is basically prune paste with flax seeds…

I’ve stopped taking it 3 months ago and I have had the squirts ever since. What can I do? I can’t walk very far, so I used to order out and I gained some weight. I am getting regular normal food now.

Did you quit cold turkey? If so, you might want to add a small amount of prunes and flax back into your diet and experiment with the levels until your gut motility returns to normal. Then you can either try to wean yourself off slowly or maintain that daily amount to control your regularity.

I had an issue similar to that and I added a lot of high fibre foods to my diet. It lasted about three months.

Yes, stop the laxative and start eating high fiber foods like melons, bran cereals, celery, cabbage, etc.
You’re wanting a coffin right?
Hmm…I’m a little concerned pal. lol
Maybe you should line your coffin with plastic sheeting.

Google colon rehab (don’t worry, it’s done in your house).
Question: how did you end up using fruit lax until you were streaking your shorts? Do you have a gi condition? Or have you abused laxatives to lose weight?

Did you have your galbladder out by chance??? if so this can be a side effect that happens if you have a lot of fat in what you are eating, not all get it but it can be quite common. A way to get back to normal eat a lower fat diet.

I am trying to figure out why this question is NSFW

It isn’t unusual for your body to react like this when you stop using a diarrhetic. You might want to soften the blow with a prune, or something less intense.

@filmfann the OP said they stopped taking the diarrhetic 3 months ago so my thought is something else is going on. They should proabaly call their doctor to see if this is normal to go this long in this state.
