We are having a kebab-only bbq this weekend and need some nontraditional kebab ideas.

1) Sausage and chicken with mustard sauce
2) Monkfish with cumin and lime
3) Pork and fig
4) Mahi mahi
5) Swordfish, bacon and cherry tomato
6) Fruit Kebobs: use the stone fruits - plums, peaches and nectarines and throw a strawberry or two in for good measure

As a side, you can also make cold antipasto kebobs with ravioli, bell pepper, mushrooms and olives - toss them in a good, lemony Italian dressing like Newman's Own

Another thing I've done is get a bunch of random gummy candy and impaled it on the barbecue skewers, kebob-style - then display them in a bowl full of heavy beans so that they stand upright.

Also, be on the lookout for flavored barbecue skewers (wood smoked, thai chile) that can add to whatever meat you're cooking.

A recent idea that I saw on tv was to make skewers out of sugar cane if you can get your hands on it.

grilled peaches are delectable...
and if you are looking for desert kabobs, how about making a "s'more" kabob with marshmallows and chocolate?

grilled pineapple on the ends of the skewers. and if you are using wood (bamboo?) skewers, soak em in water the night before and they won't catch fire on the grill.

Sturgeon is a great fish for kabobs because it has a very firm texture, almost like chicken, and tastes great grilled.
