What's your fandom and why?

Asked by DWW25921 (6498points) September 6th, 2013

I really got in to Dr. Who and before that Star Trek because I think there’s an overall optimism about the future. There’s lots of neat new tings to do and explore in these worlds. That’s probably why I also like the Final Fantasy RPG games as well. I’d love to hear about your favorite Geek moment! Anyway, feel free to brag about your favorites and why you love them! This may seem lame… My all time favorite fantasy character is the Chocobo. :)

I was a tremendous trekkie, but they haven’t given me a decent fix in way too long. So I turned to books like the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy “expanded trilogy from Douglas Adams. But the movie adaptations weren’t as satisfying and I’ve not yet read And Another Thing by Eoin Colfer. I’m reading mostly non-fiction right now.

At this particular moment in time, I’m completely smitten with Doc Martin a British TV series about a curmudgeonly doctor in a small town in Cornwall.

I also go in for both of the current Sherlock Holmes series, Sherlock and Elementary. I practically salivate when I hear the theme music start.

My ongoing thrill is with most things Star Trek, especially Patrick Stewart, Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto.

And don’t even get me started on Alan Rickman or Fran Drescher

As a child, I grew up on Science Fiction and fantasy. I read the Brother’s Grimm before I went to school. In the mid 1960’s I read the entire Lord of the Ring series in one three day period, with about 2 hours sleep each night. I have since read it again several times, along with Tolkien’s other books at a slower pace.

I have hundreds of Science Fiction books and magazines and dozens of fantasy books as well. I loved every one of the Harry Potter books. I also saw most of the Star Trek shows and all the movies. I have been a fan of Dr Who for many years

When I started taking my son to fan conventions, I started designing and making fantasy costumes, which I continued for many years.

I received my name when I devoted most of my time to making needlework projects for charity fairs and auctions, which I did for about 30 years.

I have had multiple hobbies and interests over the years.

Does it mean I’m a big nerd if I’m at the very least familiar and at the most enthralled with everything you guys just mentioned? Yup… :)

I’m a great fan of time travel films, l especially serious ones like La Jetee, Primer, and Time Crimes. I also liked Butterfly Effect, the first one. I’ve found find notion of moving back and forth in time fascinating since I was a little kid.

@Kardamom I love Doc Martin! My aunt got me hooked on it.

Ok, so I’m a Twi-tard. Does that count?

Another vote for Doc Martin! It’s a brilliant show.

@jordym84 It really is. I don’t know how you could not love it.

@Katniss I just love how endearingly awkward Martin Clunes’ character is! His quirkiness warms my heart; and the somewhat oddball supporting cast is just as wonderful (love Mr. Large).

@Katniss Hah!! Love it!!!

@jordym84 He’s so cute. I’ve been watching a bunch of behind the scenes clips on youtube about Doc Martin. Check This out.

I also love Ian McNeice who plays Mr. Large.

Oh, and check out this great Photo
