What is the contribution and role of the artists?

Also, are artists genius or blank people? I mean, creating something should mean being so knowledgable at things, right? Or is it the opposite, since all they do is imitate in a way.

It’s not the choice of genius or blank. The artist is someone who finds an alternative way to express emotion and intellect. An artist (painter, dancer, poet, sculptor, architect…the list goes on) does so as a means to process emotion in reaction to something. And the best, greatest artists do so in a way that it evokes emotion in others.

WTF! “Blank” people.
Blank people are those without imagination and curiosity.
Uh, no, artists create something out of no-thing, and all individual creative expression has value. Creativity is not about knowledge it is about innovation, imagination and the ability to transfer these inspirations, effectively, onto canvas, paper, architectural design or musical composition.

@coloma, but isn’t artist mainly imitators of nature? Even the imitators of the imitators. the real thing is the idea.

Generally, an artist is a person who creates objects or pictures out of other objects. We are usually compelled by an inner desire to make something. The only so-called role is created by other people who enjoy the results.

@lovelessness Right, I said that, it is all about innovation and imagination.

Art is about communicating an emotion in a way that attempts to ellicit the emotion in the audience. Artisits explore how to make this happen. Artisits cannot be blank, they must have the emotion they wish to communicate.

@dr what about a painter who paints a classroom while watching it, isnt that imitation? he may have no emotions

Art class seems to me more about learning the mechanics of painting. So they can have the tools to express themselves

@lovelessness Why are you hung up on this “imitation” thing?

The artist does not imitate, the artist interprets. Even photographers are artists, and the photograph is not imitative, but is a form of selecting what image the artist wishes to display.

Artists create because they are compelled to!
It is in their blood, all art forms contribute to the beauty of creative expression, if you need to dissect and feel a need to understand why, then this shows you are not a highly creative type.
No art form is an exact replica of anything else, every creation has the artists own unique skill and perspective shining through.

Artists create visions that we can relate to. They use whatever their chosen medium is to summarize and enhance our perception of the world. They provide a kind of vocabulary that we can use to interpret our experiences.

I once saw a list of phrases from Shakespeare that have been incorporated into our everyday language. It is really incredible how many terms there are. This is a case of an artist adding to our vocabulary in a very literal sense.

Perhaps the best known 20th century work of art is Munch’s The Scream. I can remember the first time I saw a copy of the picture on a page of painting thumbprints in an encyclopedia. When I saw it, my reaction was that this guy really nailed how I sometimes feel.
