What are your favorite contradictory aphorisms?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) September 23rd, 2013

For instance, we all know “Haste makes waste.” right? But isn’t it also true that “A stitch in time saves nine.”? What are some contradictory sets of old sayings you admire?

A rolling stone gathers no moss…have you seen the state of Mick & Keith?

Bird in the hand worth two in the bush?

not if you’ve set a trap in the bush and need it to make a fire to cook both birds

Ooops, I misread this question. Let me try this one.

@ucme I’m not sure that ”...have you seen the state of Mick & Keith” is a common aphorism, but it’s damned funny, so it will do.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies & @Pachyderm_In_The_Room Again, the second half isn’t a common aphorism, but how true.

@zenvelo. @CWOTUS, @Pachyderm_In_The_Room & @Sunny2 Now THAT’s what I’m talking about. Good ones.

@Hypocrisy_Central Well done on that one! You gathered a whole litany of contradictory aphorisms from the same generic family.

@Blondesjon I think those are great. But then who am I to judge? But I had better strike while the iron is hot and judge this collection masterful.

@YARNLADY How true, or false.

@flutherother That’s the spirit. Can I quote you on that, or that?

@Hypocrisy_Central I like Rihanna’s corollary, “Sticks and stones may break my bones / But chains and whips excite me”

Going off @flutherother a picture is worth a thousand words. A word is worth a thousand pictures.

@Unbroken The right word sure is, like the correct password to a 10 million dollar abandoned bank account. :-)

Let me know when you figure that one out, I want in. : )
