Should some folks give a little more thought to the initials they use to get the name of their business out as many times as possible in a 60 second ad?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46812points) September 23rd, 2013

There was an ad on TV for Universal Technical Institute. They used the abbreviation “UTI” about 20 times in 60 seconds. Those letters send painful, horrible shivers up the spines of most women and some men. I mean, really, people!

Advertising is designed to bring attention. Look at you – in your case, it clearly caught your eye (or ear) which means that it was 100% successful.

Also, you have broadcast that information to 50,000 Fluther users, at no further advertising cost to UTI. I would say that the money that they spent for the spot has been extremely well spent, based in you alone.

The underlying question: why are your questions today all suggestive of censorship or media control? Do you work for the republican party?

Lord. I would have to assume that is a company run by men, the voice on the ad is a man, and the person who rubber stamped the ad is a man.

When I hear MVP I think mitral valve prolapse (a type of heart murmur) but all the men around me think most valuable player. What can I say.

@elbanditoroso I reject your premise that any publicity is good publicity, but I have to give you a GA for your last sentence. :)

There are only 26 letters in the alphabet. Things can have multiple associations. It’s good for a chuckle.

This question isn’t about “censorship” @elbanditoroso. It’s about common sense. Don’t make things more than they are.

A UTI is nothing to chuckle about @glacial!

When I hear MVP I think Most Valuable Player too… never had a mitral valve prolapse, though.

You don’t exactly have a mitral valve prolapse in passing per se. You either have it or you don’t. Those are the peopl who have to be given antibiotics before getting dental work done. You may have heard of that treatment. One of the valves in the heart doesn’t work properly.

I would guess a MVP isn’t nearly as common as a UTI.

I agree UTI is much better known and recognized.

Don’t say that anymore @JLeslie. It makes me want to roll around on the floor and cry.

Local attorney Pat R. Cox seriously needs to learn this lesson.

I remember seeing a truck that had the logo “PMS Waste Disposal” that was underlined by a red smear. They had to be going for effect there.

Wonder if it was dead bodies disposal @drhat77!
