If this gorilla would have been labeled gay, would he be faulted for not wanting the company of female gorillas?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) September 25th, 2013

Would this gorilla “Patrick” be called sexist or misogynistic if he wanted to hump other male gorillas on top of not caring for the female gorillas the zoo presented to him? If he was classed as a gay gorilla by zoologist would he have been displaced or left alone to be with his male gorilla buddies?

Ya really hate gays, dontcha?

^ Unless I say plainly “I hate gays”, then I don’t. Does that answer your question? Now, you care to take a stab at the question at hand or just comment on the question because you have no answer?

The gorilla seems not to be merely uninterested in females, but anti-social to them. That’s not a matter of preference, it’s a matter of behavior that makes him unsuitable for cohabitation, which is why he’s getting ‘therapy’. It has nothing to do with his sexual preference.

That story is so sad. I feel really sad for Patrick. I think he deserves his own private jungle. If you shot and killed my friend, I’d be pretty upset too.

@ragingloli

I assume there is a history to base that comment on, but I gave you a great answer anyway!

@Hypocrisy_Central

Gay, misogynistic and sexist, are human terms ( check the roots of the terms ) so this Patric may just be a homosexually inclined gorilla in a temporary behavior mode, or not.

Regardless, this story shows journalistic misapprehensions of zoological terminology and most likely shoddy reporting on the actual events happening at the zoo.

@Neodarwinian
His questions always seem to ooze some sort of aura of contempt towards one of the actors of his scenarios. One of the recent ones was an attempt to justify slut-shaming disguised as a “question about fashion”.
This question here, to my cynical self, is clearly an attempt to dehumanise gays by complaining about different treatment of this gorilla, who has, as he sees it, the same “condition” as gays. I am also going to submit here, that he sees the treatment of this gorilla as the way that gays and homosexuality itself should be treated.
He may claim otherwise, but I do not believe him.

That is an opinion, and you know what is said of opinions.

Again when someone assumes you know what is said of that. I was leaning more on how the gorilla was perceived by those reporting the events; that he was or is anti-social to female gorillas and thus had to be sexist, or misogynistic, because he appears to be a healthy heterosexual gorilla but shunning the female gorillas they present to him. They never thought maybe they just chose female gorillas he did not like. It is no attempt to d-e-h-u-m-a-n-i-z-e gays.

He may claim otherwise, but I do not believe him.
Why would I need to lie to you? Don’t take this the wrong way, (but you will most likely anyway) but I don’t have to answer to you, so if you believe me or not is of no consequence to me, just don’t slander my name. But since your assuming is good to lurve you up, I suspect it won’t stop here.

Catching some of your other posts leads me to think that you protest too much.

Show that wrong by telling me what your real thoughts are on gays.

I have to agree with @ragingloli‘s assessment of the nature of your questions, @Hypocrisy_Central.

@Hypocrisy_Central “If he was classed as a gay gorilla by zoologist would he have been displaced or left alone to be with his male gorilla buddies?”

You know, you have an excellent point there. I found myself wondering if that would actually be better for Patrick. His mother dies. His friend is shot. And now he’s being moved away from the rest of his friends. I hate that for him. If classifying him as a gay gorilla would allow him to remain with the few friends he has left, then by all means, put the pink collar on him and leave the poor chump be.

From a better article:

“Despite his affability with humans and his popularity in zoo presentations about gorillas, zoo officials said Patrick’s reaction toward female apes has ranged from indifference to aggression.”

“It’s become clear that he prefers to live a solitary life,” said Dr. Lynn Kramer, head veterinarian at the Dallas Zoo.”

Again, this has nothing to do with his sexual preference.

Then one of you need to site some question; then I can show you were you erred.

Again, this has nothing to do with his sexual preference.
CORRECT, it was never about that. I was about the zoologist labeling Patrick as anti-female, sexist, or misogynistic because he did not care to be around or boink any of the female gorillas they presented; then banishing him as punishment because they could not get any baby gorillas out of him. It was those who answered heckled commented that took it there because they wanted to spotlight the human ills that gay humans encounter. Of which was an issue that had no foot or importance to this question.

I think if we could just leave animals in their natural habitat we wouldn’t be having this problem, heck maybe we should start adding gay gorilla to our plate next to cricket flour and horse meat.
:-X
We can’t leave animals alone so I won’t even dream about that, I’ll just do my part and keep not eating them or supporting any company that is cruel towards them.

Almost every time I see a question from @Hypocrisy_Central he is getting told he has a hidden agenda or he had to defend himself…seriously I almost feel like creating a double hashtag whammy just for him and gay gorillas and other animals that need help because ppl won’t leave him alone. :-/ hashtag Seriouslyletmypplgo.

OK so if this gorilla were human it would be treated whichever way at that time that humans have been primed to believe is right.
