What is that unique sound in Train's Homesick?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) October 1st, 2013

There’s an instrument that they just use for a few single cords that sounds like a cross between a guitar and something else. I can’t identify it. Any ideas? There’s a melotron and a moog synthesizer in the jacket notes but I’m not familiar with either.

I just listened to it and only heard the acoustic guitar, electric guitar (mostly played with slide), bass guitar, and maybe a hint of keyboard in background there. Can you specify a time on the song that contains that sound you are asking about?

@tom_g It starts just under a minute in at the beginning of the chorus.

Electric guitar with slide and slight overdrive/distortion.
