How would one go about finding a suitable petsitter?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11160points) October 3rd, 2013

Not a weekly thing, but more like when I go on vacation.

How do you go about finding someone you can trust? I really don’t want to burden my family and friends with it.

Two cats and a coupla fish.

I asked at the upscale pet store where I buy my dog food. They gave me local recommendations and said they knew them personally.

I had my husband ask his colleagues at work.

I asked at my vet’s and one of the vet techs did pet sitting on the side.

Talk to friends who have cats and ask who they use. Word of mouth is best!

I am currently looking after a wonderful dog for a lady who is going through a transition in her life. She interviewed me over the internet and then we had a visit so she could see how I interacted with her dog.

Ask your veterinarian for a referral to an excellent boarding kennel. Ask other local pet owners for advice.

Our vet has a boarding facility, and one of the workers in her office also does home pet-sitting.

I actually had a pet sitting biz. for a few years…called it “Farm Avenue”, for the gentlemens ranch estates in my area. :-)

Yep, plenty of local refs. I am sure you can glean, from vets, groomers, word of mouth, personal ads.

You could also try Care.com. They have pet sitting in addition to child and elderly care.
