Which blog-writing software should I use?

Asked by pamfr (72points) June 24th, 2008

I want to start writing a blog instead of sending an occasional newsletter to contacts in my field. Ideal software would be somehow situated on my domain to help increase traffic to my site, easy to start/“install” for a non-techie, easy to post including from my iPhone, complete with helpful features such as future posting, simple/attractive look, and easy for people to find via search. Any ideas? (I’m drowning in all the blog info out there.)

Wordpress or Movable Type. Don’t forget that there are some very good hosted solutions, including one by Wordpress and Blogger from Google. I wouldn’t recommend anything beyond this list.

If you want the something increibly easy-to-use that also lets you use your own custom domain without the hassles of starting of having a private host, try Tumblr. They have an awesome iPhone web app and are also coming out with a new native app next month. Heres how i would put it – Wordpress is like a PC where Tumblr is like a Mac.

Oh, quite honestly, I wouldn’t bother with software. Get a cheaper website like blogger or freewebs. You can subscribe to both.
