Can you message airbnb members before you make a deposit?

I was able to message the owner when I booked a room in SF a few years ago. Wonder if their policy has changed? If there is no other contact info, I don’t see how you can get around it.

You can “message your host” and do not have to pay the deposit if they don’t respond but it does look like you have to tentatively book before you message them. Af ter I ahd booked my host and I exchanged contact info and were in touch. I didn’t read the cancellation policy; maybe there is a cancellation period?

I used VRBO.com and HomeAway.com and found that some locations list on more than one site. I also used BedAndBreakfast.com and found that many places have their own website. Do a web search for the name or address of the B-n-B and see if there’s another listing via which you can contact them.
