I’ve been painting a lot recently, with mixed results. What are you working on?

I do love watercolor and am gaining in competence but I rarely make the time to do it.

At the moment, I’m drying out pine cones for holiday decorations, have a bunch of wound up wire ready to be cut into chain links for a bracelet, and I’m at my sewing table making apron ties.

I have been writing a lot of poetry and short pieces this year, and right now I am taking an online writing course given by an English professor that teaches up in Washington (I am in California). Nicely challenging!

I am working on trying to keep myself grounded. Right now, it will be incredibly easy to something ‘silly’.

I just finished recording a pretty good cover of the late-60s Lovin’ Spoonful hit ‘Six O’clock’. Nobody’s favorite song, but I’ve always loved it.

Not I, but our son-in-law, a design engineer in New York, is at this moment strollering our 9-month-old grandson in a neighborhood Halloween parade in Brooklyn. Our SIL designed and built a replica Mercury 7 space capsule with all of the NASA markings which ingeniously fits over the stroller.

The baby is dressed in an astronaut suit, his parents are wearing Ground Control uniforms, and they even hooked up NASA audio chatter using an iPod.

OK, most of the above isn’t MY creative project…..but I DID get to swoon over our grandson again….

I have an outline for a story I want to write, but…right now the biggest creative project I am working on is how to creatively keep surviving after this economy wiped me out.
Gone are my days of prosperity where I could indulge my whimsical creative pursuits.
I am also seriously toying with the idea of doing some stand up street comedy.
Haven’t picked a place yet, and winter is coming, but I just might become a part time street performer.

I have some ideas of how I want to engage my audience. Ideas for props, costuming, interactive improv.
Laughs for cash. :-D
My current work does not afford me evening time for gigs at clubs, sooo, enter the busking idea.

Also am researching a very interested in perhaps buying/building a Tiny House.

I was up til really late last night looking at Tiny Houses for sale, to be shipped or already on properties.

I always have creative projects in the works. They’re kind of on the back burner during the school year, but I still pay them attention when I can and make slow progress.

Right now I have a sci-fi novel written that I am revising, and I’m slowly developing a sequel. I have access to a piano in my dorm building, and I visit it almost nightly. I’m improving a lot, and have learned how to play a bunch of pop/rock songs over the past few months, which is fun. And I was lucky enough to have a lot of opportunities to paint last quarter, because I took a painting class. I’m really sad that it’s over, actually. I’ll try and find time for it still but it’s hard.

Other than a video interview I’m shooting tomorrow with a client, I have to say no. I’ve been flirting for two months with starting a collection of reminiscences about my advertising days but so far have only a rough, partial outline. Thanks for the nudge.

Finished the first apron a few minutes ago. You can see it on my artsy-fartsy facebook page if you’d like.

“Project” is way too established and systematic to go hand in hand with creativity for me.

I’ve started writing again, and I realise how much I missed it. When I’m writing, I wear headphones, and it is like a holiday from the world. I like the world. I don’t want it to go away completely – but it feels great to shut it out on occasion. When I “return”, I feel focused, productive and at peace with myself. I don’t know why I stopped.

I have some sticks and pine cones and pieces of tree bark that I picked up in the forest when we went camping in September. I’m going to make a rustic sculpture, I guess you could call it a mobile, for my brother to hang in his office.

I also plan to make some Christmas ornaments out of pine cones that I will be collecting from a nearby park.

I do have some drawing paper, good pencils and some paints and a canvas, so I’ll probably be dabbling in that a bit.

And of course, I’m always taking pictures and will be framing some of those for Christmas gifts. Mostly landscapes. I’m probably going to take a plain frames and glue some tree bark and/or acorns onto them, to make them look rustic and woodsy, and then use them to frame some of the pictures I took on my camping trip.

This question is getting me all in the mood to make some stuff!

Nothing at the moment (too busy working), but I miss it. May be time to get back to painting soon!

Nothing major but I made some digital art yesterday. Three pieces, shown together here.

@downtide that’s so nice!

Learning and preparing to sing Mendelssohn’s Elijah for performance in a couple weeks. It’s a very long and beautiful oratorio.
