You can check your birth certificate and visit your birth hospital and find out information about your mother. If you are adopted then you can ask your Foster parents or check the adoption records. Some of them have found their parents through Facebook too. Try these sites:

The key to being successful in finding your mother might depend on the circumstances of your adoption, like how and where. You could ask your parents the name of their adoption attorney or agency, obtain the adoption records and go from there. Once you know the names and location of your birth mother or father, it’s pretty simple to look them up through online searching, such as the yellow pages web site or even the good old physical phonebook.

Make sure that your are emotionally prepared for the consequences of finding your birth mother. 1. It will not solve all of the problems in your life. 2. Your mother may have been a troubled person who gave you up for your own good. 3. She may not be prepared to let you into her current life. Make sure that you explore all of the possibilities so that you are prepared no matter what.

People can find their biological relatives at the Ancestry.com message board. Although the posts are often effective, they’re also very public; they can be read by anyone – if you think about it, that’s the whole idea – and information is found at the price of lost privacy.

The folks above gave pretty good insight and advice. I won’t say what the others brought up but one thing I think I’ll add is patience and perseverance. It may take some time.
