Where can I find batik bedding?

Asked by Haleth (18947points) November 25th, 2013

I’m looking for a colorful, patterned quilt or duvet that isn’t over-the-top expensive. What I want is a big, bold, statement kind of thing, not a wimpy little throw or blanket.

This, this, and this are other examples of the kinds of colors and patterns I like. It would be ok to have something with just one bright pattern, but I’d really love to find something like the first example, with designs made from multiple patterned fabrics.

So far, I’ve looked around all the normal places you’d go for bedding, like Ikea, department stores, and overstock. com. Pier 1 Imports and World Market have the kind of look I’m going for, with lots of big bright colorful patterns, but they didn’t have anything like this either. (Ikea has something in the colors I like, but not the bold patterns.) Otherwise most of the stuff out there seems pretty dull and bland.

If I had a sewing machine, I might try to make this myself. Or I could treat it as an art piece/ investment, and look in places like Etsy. That’s sure to be a lot more expensive, but maybe worth it? I don’t have a specific budget for this, as long as it’s worth the money. Any thoughts?

There you go. I searched in Etsy ‘batik blanket.’ Do that for other choices.

Thinking about this a little more, you’d probably have better luck finding what you want in the spring/summer.

If you have a World Market near you, they typically carry a variety of batik (batikish) bedding. You can view some of it online.

I bought mine on Etsy. I love it. I was also looking for something with strong colours and patterns, although weirdly what I ended up choosing is a bit more subdued than I thought I wanted. I used the categories and price ranges to narrow the selection, because there is rather a lot out there. Make sure you keep an eye on the sizes, though; a lot of lower-priced quilts are tiny lap thingies.

Oh wow – you can narrow searches by colour now, too – that wasn’t possible when I was shopping for mine.
