[NSFW] What's your favorite lubricant, and why?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) November 29th, 2013

What’s your go-to, handy-dandy all-purpose lubricant. There’s Vaseline, K-Y Jelly, silicone jells, and au naturel. Then again, you might think of WD-40, 3-in-One oil, etc, which work for household tasks, but only are used in SFW settings. If so, click here.

I use this
1 litre of lube for about 8€. It lasts ages.

Natural Lubricant is always the best!

ucme's avatar

My sexual prowess, they’re…ahem, she’s moist whenever I get near her.

muppetish's avatar

Coconut oil or Sliquid Organics. I prefer the former, but the latter is easier to measure out in the colder months since coconut oil turns solid depending on the room temperature.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Another vote for natural. Remember a woman is like a frying pan. You have to get both of them hot before you put your meat in.

ragingloli's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe
You also have to put olive oil in the pan and salt and pepper on the meat.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@ragingloli Not sure about the salt and pepper on my meat.

ragingloli's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe
Some meat you also have to tenderise with a hammer, and score with a knife.

what I am saying is, pick your analogies more carefully

Why? Because I know who made it.

Interesting question since loads of lubes can cause issues for some women. I know for e.g. the heated burning one has a big thumbs down from me. KY just dries up too fast, I like Sylk but it is expensive so it is hard to say. I am hearing more and more coconut oil is good. I find the smell a bit off-putting. Loads of lubes cause yeast infections too. Vaseline would be just revolting in all ways. So I will say coconut oil. I have heard it is excellent but I am not sure how true these deductions are.

The thing is women might be wet, but the natural course of female arousal is wet, dry, wet, dry. So relying on her natural lube only must mean the men that mentioned that only do quickies! Ha ha !

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@LornaLove Wet dry wet dry? I guess that is just like a woman, always changing her mind.
(taking cover and hiding)

LornaLove's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Yes, hot and cold that’s us!

syz's avatar

Never really needed it (except for a few experimental occasions).

Berserker's avatar

Dude, WD-40? Lol.

Lorna's avatar

I only use the lubricant he makes me make. Don’t need any aid.

gondwanalon's avatar

“Tri-Flow” and “WD-40” are very good for most purposes but BLASTER silicone spray lubricant work great on for just about anything. It also preserves and protects. I first used it to help my vinyl pool cover slide between aluminum grooves of the pool. I’m still experimenting with it.

Lorna's avatar

^^ had to check I answered in the right question with that.

ragingloli's avatar

the lubricant you make.

The only one I’ve ever bought and used is Astroglide. Used for for self-play than anything. I’m out now, though, and a friend who runs a sex shop is supposed to be sending me a variety of samplers.

wildpotato's avatar

Whoops, forgot the why: it’s water-based and so is fine to use with toys, it’s mostly organic/natural, it has no taste, it doesn’t leave a weird film as it dries, and it’s a good consistency – not too liquid. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it stays cold. I’d like to invent a lube warmer, kind of like a gravy boat warmer.

Seek's avatar

^ My sex shop friend says you can get anything from a small warming cup to an entire heated cabinet for all of your favourite supplies. She recommends just sticking a mug of water in the microwave for 40 seconds then popping the bottle in for a bit.

wildpotato's avatar

We’ll try that; thanks!

livelaughlove21's avatar

We only use natural lubrication and whatever is on the condom. If we do use lube (usually for a nice long handjob), I love KY Warming Sensations. It doesn’t dry out and require multiple applications like lotion, it doesn’t take divine intervention to remove it like Vaseline, and the warm feeling is nice for him.

ETpro's avatar

Ha! I knew this question was starting me down a slippery slope.

@ragingloli I love it. A lube meant for your pussy cat’s pussy and your Lhaso Apso’s butt. But the sales pitch notes it works great for humans too. I gotta get me some of that.

@Smitha Were it suffices, there is no question that’s true. And with a little creativity, it can suffice just about anywhere. For instance, playing with toys. Lubrication is often needed. Just deep-throat the dildo a bit, and it will be slippery beyond your wildest dreams. Same goes for anal sex. You can either do some cock gagging or use your fingers and get copious quantities of extremely slippery saliva, the body’s natural defense against choking on something lodged deep in the throat. I little worshipful rimming with that, and the back passage is as wet as it can get.

@ucme You guys pretty much stick to the missionary stuff, huh?

@muppetish Well, coconut oil is edible, so if things progress in that direction you’re good to go. But the perfume of the coconut isn’t the most sexual of smells. Smell is my main reason for finding ways to exploit natural lubricants secreted by the human body.

@Adirondackwannabe Agreed, although I cannot remember a time when I wanted to get my meat fried. I can get into masochism, but not at that level. :-)

@josie Pretty much what I was saying above. I just got a lot more graphic with the concept. :-)

@LornaLove I am glad you brought up the issue about sensitivity to various lubes. I hope that topic gets more discussion. Another reason to augment lack of natural lube with another form of natural.

@syz Lucky, or lacking in adventure?

@Symbeline At least you won’t rust out.

@Lorna If he’s anything like me, while he’s getting you wet he produces a copious quantity of high-quality lube of his own.

@gondwanalon Yeah I was also wondering how WD-40 jumped in this thread.

@wildpotato Babelube Natural looks interesting. What does it smell like? Thanks for the time on how to warm lubes.

@Seek_Kolinahr Please remember this thread and pop back in with a review after you test the sampler kit.

@livelaughlove21 Never tried that variant of K-Y. That sounds interesting. Vaseline is good for back door play where water is involved. Water based lubes are gone in 60 seconds in that application.

Who knew there was so much technology involved in lubes?

Haleth's avatar

PSA: some oil-based lubes damage condoms.

No lube is perfect. Water-based ones like KY dry out fast and get sticky, not in a good way. Silicone-based lubes have the opposite problem, where they stay slippery forever, and washing them away is a bitch. My favorites are water-based ones with better consistency, like Astroglide or Astroglide gel.

ucme's avatar

@ETpro Not at all, whatever gave you that impression?

SecondHandStoke's avatar

GA @gondwanalon for mentioning “The Fabulous” PB Blaster!

http://www.pbblaster.com/

If the Blaster can’t get something unstuck out of anything I don’t know what can.

….............

Depends on application:

We’ve found Astroglide to be comfortable and doesn’t damage expensive toys:

Crisco for other applications, of course.

@ETpro:

Will it read “Shows ability to follow instructions.” on my report card?

When I had my surgery in June I was advised to use a silicone-based lube on the scars, as a cheaper and just-as-effective alternative to medical silicone treatments. It worked pretty well as a scar tratment, but the bottle I bought was far too big for just that so I’ve been using it in the bedroom as well. I love it. You only need a tiny amount.

Unbroken's avatar

I go for natural typically. For some reason cleaning up fake lube is so much more yucky then the real stuff. When and if I start getting dry its a good time to pause for oral.

I did go through a phase where I was dry and got some of h2o jo. I don’t use it much but it is a lot better then the some others I have tried as in they are toy and condom friendly and don’t cause womanly problems, the taste is well better then some and even though its not tacky it does feel odd.

Oh and when I was young and experimental cleos cream was warm me up to a point where pushing boundaries is fun.

Looks like they got a bottle upgrade but I recognize the colors. Green was the favorite… But tbh the colors were a bit odd. So I haven’t bought any in years.

Seek's avatar

@downtide I feel like my surgical staff was lax in their post-operative care duties, now.

wildpotato's avatar

@ETpro Out of the bottle it is nearly scentless, but just now when I screwed open the top and took a deep whiff it smelled quite fruity – more than I expected, given how little scent it had when I squeezed a little blob onto my wrist to double check.

ETpro's avatar

@Haleth In my admittedly (not) limited experience, water based lubes like KY hold up well in the vagina where additional fluid is constantly being added (provided, of course, the she is digging the action). But you’r quite right, where petroleum based lubricants are planned, condoms should be natural material or silicone. Not all silicone based lubricants are safe with latex condoms. Check out what a particular lube is intended for.

@ucme Well, it’s a pretty safe assumption that doesn’t apply to anal sex. Lubricants aren’t a necessity for oral sex anyway. So what does that leave? :-)

@SecondHandStoke A + on ability to follow instructions.

@downtide Who ever knows when serendipity will strike?

@Unbroken I an sooooo on board with the natural lube and pause for oral when more is needed. If just a little licking of an orifice isn’t enough, then some gagging on a natural appendage or a toy will quickly produce more extremely efficient natural lube than you can use.

@SecondHandStoke I’m not a big fan of tattoos, but I totally agree with the sentiment those express.

@Seek_Kolinahr Too late to demand a replay?

@wildpotato Interesting. Natural body scents send me to second heaven, so I wouldn’t want anything that interfered with the body’s own chemistry. But a slightly fruity scent. That might work. Thanks.

@Sueanne_Tremendous Lube for the libido. :-)
