Why do Catholics gather screaming, waving and crying to see the Pope?

Asked by Aster (20023points) February 6th, 2014

I have a good friend, a Catholic, who told me today she would “give anything” to see the Pope. I just said I understood and that was a common feeling for people of her faith but I couldn’t understand it.
Why do you think they go crazy to see him?

They think that he has special powers, or good luck. I’ve never seen a pope heal anyone. He is a celebrity.

It’s our innate need to need a leader. For them, he is the ultimate leader. He is right next to God.

I’d probably get a little goofy if I got to actually see the president and Mrs. O in person. :)

I know I got REALLY goofy when I saw Donny Osmond in person.

He is THE rock star of Catholicism. He is the man between the Church and God.

I don’t know because evidently the Pope is the AntiChrist.

Because they’re beliebers, poor unfortunate souls.

This current pope seems to be especially beloved because he has made an effort to connect with the common an through his words and deeds.

I remember seeing a popular president as a child with my mother and it was much the same.
