Is this next door neighbor searching for a scapegoat?

Asked by Aster (20023points) February 7th, 2014

We moved here in January of 2009 and the house next door was for sale. Here it is 2014 and it’s STILL for sale. She won’t budge on the price; she’s in there for the long haul. So yesterday she decided that our leaves are blowing on her yard, thus keeping her from selling the house. I have never noticed or even cared about leaves on the ground when looking at a new home; have you? So she dropped a note in our mailbox that our leaves do not let her house show at it’s best and she’d appreciate it if blah blah blah so someone is coming tomorrow to take care of our leaves. Is she trying to blame us for her home not selling? It is a beautiful two story anyone would be proud to own.

Scapegoat, maybe not. Someone to help pay for her yard maintenance, yes. Don’t be surprised to get a bill for “your” leaf removal.

No; she won’t hire someone to rake our leaves. Our guy comes tomorrow.

She sounds delusional or very stubborn. Leaves wouldn’t deter me or most people I’d think from buying a home that was otherwise appealing.

She sounds like an idiot.

You misunderstand. Don’t be surprised to get a bill for her guy to clean “your” leaves from her yard.

She sounds like an idiot as someone here said, but not nearly as bad an idiot as my neighbor. Perhaps rake them up yourself to get rid of her? Lucky you! Mine looks as if she is set to stay. (Possibly because other neighborhoods would beat her to death with a mangy cat). Ah! That felt SO good to say. Thanks for a great question.

She’s lucky you’re taking care of the leaves. If you were going to be stubborn about it, you could ignore the whole thing. Unless your local code enforcement has an issue, she really has no say about your leaves. Maybe her home is not selling because her kitchen is old and crappy or she’s asking too much or she has a wet basement or a host of other reasons.

@jca it isn’t selling because she won’t come down a dime on the high price. It’s a beautiful home. Soon our yard will look fine and her house still won’t sell. Fun to watch this unfold all of 2014.
I think she’s also miserable because she lives with her brother who has some sort of mental issues. He’s real sweet but I think incapable of living alone. Not sure.
