Would you please genuinely watch this video with no thoughts whatsoever and then telling me how you felt about it?

Asked by pleiades (6617points) February 25th, 2014

Ok this is a performance video

I’ll give you that much. It’s not spam, it’s nothing crazy. Just click and watch the video, don’t read the title please don’t read the comments whatsoever!

I’m genuinely curious to hear about your results then I will share mines with you!

It does have to do with music and singing as well if that helps.

I thought the mom was manipulating things, with the guidance acquiescence of the producers.

manipulative marketing. No one is going to x buzz a 9 year old. The mom said so in the beginning. But then I don’t like music that much… too many television singing shows… I’m sick of all of it. I’m into commodity news. Like gold coins and silver bullion.

Made me cry, very sweet.
As long as he is singing because he wants to not because he is being pressured by mummy.
@ibstubro I guess I’m naive, I didn’t pick up on that, just thought he was a humble and nervous kid.

Well shit…sooo, what? Is the kid and mom a sociopathic duet? haha

It is a touching story about a talented boy who exhibits the fear and trepidation 99% of those contestants feel and experience. I think he is talented. That said I just feel the show coddled, skillfully edited the footage, background music and voice overs and exploited the boy’s emotions to get a bigger reaction. It would be interesting to see the full unedited footage.

With the right editing, footage of a 10 yr old boy putting on a suit and tie can be turned into a tear-jerker.

The camera angles and overall piecing of the video is produced, I’ll give you that. But mum said he gets nervous. The crying threw me off. I want to know more about this boy he sings so pure and with pain… You didn’t catch that part? @ibstubro @talljasperman

I find it interesting that some will point out the production vs the quality of the singer himself.

(Not saying any one opinion is wrong! Just again, finding it interesting, makes me wonder what would be genuine in your eyes?)

Also I don’t watch any of these shows, just came across this snippet on YT I’m not even a fan of Beyonce or whoever it is he’s covering or top billboard charts radio, just found this to be really touching!

@pleiades 9 year old who experienced pain… we all have, I have my pain too, so I guess i’m being too judgmental. I would appreciate a hug too.

@pleiades I agree with what you are saying and did acknowledge this boys talent. But this is a show about ratings and this show in particular is famous for picking winners and losers before the judging even starts. Just watch the semi finals on and not all the contestants get the support on stage the cherry picked ones get. You can see some singers get a full backup band, dancers, sparking outfits, spotlights and fog machine where other just get to go on stage with a microphone and their own wardrobe and a bad haircut.

They make the contestants appear how ever the see it will serve up top tier ratings…including editing a young boys appearance to tug at the ratings heart strings.

Whoah. Might we be putting just a little too much pressure on our kids?

His performance moved me to tears. It would be a challenge for an adult with little or no experience standing on stage in front of an audience of thousands to perform. That the nine-year-old needed the emotional support of his mother in no way suggests that she has in anyway manipulated him to demonstrate his obvious talent.

I thought it was very moving. Yes, maybe there was clever editing on the part of the video-makers but I don’t see anything that suggests the boy was being manipulated by his mum. Sure he was nervous but what nine year old, singing in public for several million people, for the first time, wouldn’t be. He was singing a very emotional song and he is very good at injecting that emotion into his performance.

I used to sing (albeit to much smaller audiences) and even as an adult I have been so emotionally involved in some of the songs and in my performance that I have moved myself to tears too.
