Is this just a coincidence...or is it suspicious?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) March 13th, 2014

A while back my computer was acting up. That’s when I met Geeks on Site. I really like them. They are courteous and thorough.
Well, recently my computer has been giving me fits AGAIN. I tried everything over the course of 2 days, finally went back to Geeks on Site yesterday, March 12. I allowed them to remote in on my computer and they ran all kinds of scans and diagnostics. Well, I was idly watching them work for the first few minutes. They were accessing files I already had on my computer. I tried taking some notes so I could do some of it myself next time.
Then I noticed something odd…the files they were accessing had been installed on March 11, 2013. As I looked closer I saw some picture file (that kind that has a big sunflower as the default image) that was called “Geeks on Site.” Maybe it was their logo, I don’t know. But it too had been downloaded on March 11, 2013.

So my computer started getting wonky exactly one year to the day they last worked on it? Am I just being a conspiracy theorist here?

Is this a pay service you speak of? I’d be a but suspicious, too, if it is.

Run a search on your computer and see if it brings up anything for “Geeks on Site”?

In any case, I’d be tempted to ask them about it. Likely it’s just a record of what they did to fix the problem the last time. It would be much easier to store that information on your computer, and there’s always the chance that a ‘fix’ will cause additional problems and they would have to know how to reverse course.

I’d be suspicious only because of some complaints I found doing a search on them and found this gem “I am a former tech for Geeks On Site and I can tell you that they are a dishonest company and that they operate under another name too. What they charge the customer is such an enormous amount, because it is only about the money and not customer satisfaction.”
