Am I imagining it or are there more females than males here?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23626points) March 19th, 2014

I’ve been here for a year now and I realize that I meet more female jellies than male jellies, both old and new.

Is it true that there are more female jellies here? Or haven’t I explored Fluther thoroughly yet?

This question does not include inactive jellies. It only concerns about active jellies.

I think there might be.

Just like in real life.

I think that we have a fairly equal balance between male and female jellies on Fluther, but I haven’t stopped to count them for a more accurate approximation because it’s not something I pay too much attention to in the first place.

Berserker's avatar

Couldn’t really say, I always imagined it was fairly balanced. Although what with people leaving and others joining on a steady enough flow, might be hard to properly catalog the whole issue.

I opened a fluther sort of site that had members from here that I poached from the chatroom it was mostly female. Active people are about 75% female. Today I was the only male and there were five females. This is in no way a good measure. But I would say that the female concentration here is a lot higher here than Reddit.

It does seem that way, you’d think they’d be too busy doing the housework than find time on here ~ <<<< #intheclear

@ucme Making sandwiches and giving bjs takes surprisingly (or not) little time out of one’s day.

I personally like the ratio of more females to less males but then again, I’m a guy so I’m biased.

ucme's avatar

@livelaughlove21 You’re point being.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@ucme That’s why there’s no many women here…?

ucme's avatar

No or so?

dxs's avatar

I agree that it seems like there are more females than males.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@ucme Ugh, never mind. I don’t do that talking in riddles crap. Sorry I responded to your answer with an attempt at humor. I obviously failed.

@livelaughlove21 I got it, good stuff right there….sarcastic wit is my favorite. ;)

livelaughlove21's avatar

@KNOWITALL Thanks. :) I didn’t think it would be so complicated for some to grasp what I was trying to say. Oh well. I’m not going to spell it out.

ucme's avatar

Whoosh!
Not complicated, no riddles either, I was just winding you up, seems some people find that difficult to understand…oh well.

jca's avatar

I think it’s pretty much equal – just my opinion.

When I think of Jellies that I know, that have been around a while, I think of men and women equally.

KNOWITALL's avatar

We’ve had threads before that seemed to me to show that a lot of guys are lurkers, not necessarily posters. Typical….lol

ucme's avatar

So, it seems the vast majority of users are indeed female…suits me fine :)

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more active females, but I have to say It would be hard to get actual percentages. For one, fluther doesn’t prompt us to identify our gender so where we do know eachothers gender its because we’ve been paying attention and know them a bit or they’re just making it really clear.

I think its worth noting that fluther is not a binary gender space and we count as jellies some stellar persons that actively choose not to identify themselves as male or female whether it be just here or in life in general.

Let me tell you the dirty little secret about the Internet. There are no females on it.

herculies's avatar

Well @Mimishu1995 I would like to say Hello. And I am a male.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Hi @herculies. Nice to meet you and I’m asexual :)

fundevogel's avatar

@Mimishu1995 Me too! Though that’s totally unrelated to my gender :)

rojo's avatar

@Mimishu1995 @fundevogel Asexual as in a lack of sexual interest or activity or as in a lack of sexual orientation? Just wondering.

Buttonstc's avatar

What difference does it make?

rojo's avatar

@Buttonstc it makes no difference really, just intellectual curiosity.

Possibly there are more females on here as they are the ones that can think brilliantly and multitask whilst ruling empires on the side, as well as give excellent BJ’s on the other side.

”@Mimishu1995 @fundevogel Asexual as in a lack of sexual interest or activity or as in a lack of sexual orientation? Just wondering.”—rojo

@rojo It’s variable with different people, but I would describe my experience of it as lacking sexual imperative. Sex itself doesn’t bother me, but I’m neither physically or emotionally motivated to persue it in or out of relationships. It is sometimes is called an orientation, but that seems weird to me like atheism being a religion or bald being a hair color. Oriented towards what exactly? I can find any gender attractive, but it doesn’t get me interested in jumping their bones.

That’s my experience anyways. But asexuality is an umbrella term so I am by no means presenting the gold standard. People do it and experience in different ways.

Dude, what the hell happened in here? O_o

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Symbeline What happened here? You and I all got modded :’(

Berserker's avatar

Erm, I don’t think any of my stuff got modded in this thread. I learned what it was about, I had nothing to do with this. Or if I did, I must have been pretty tanked, because I don’t remember arguing with anyone in here. XD

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Symbeline Updated: no, that’s not it! I was in the wrong place!

I didn’t read the question title carefully and I thought this was that question! I thought one of your posts there was modded, but it turned out that it wasn’t. Sorry…

Berserker's avatar

Aaah, makes sense now. Lol, and no harm done bro. :)

dxs's avatar

Now I’m curious

DominicX's avatar

In general, the rule is “there are no girls on the internet”. In my experience, most forums I’ve posted on had more males, but I’ve also been a few (especially teen-oriented ones when I was younger) where girls were the majority. It’s interesting how that works…
