Do you feel your private data/information is safe?

With identity theft becoming a growing problem, hackers have just developed another way to “steal all your data right from your smart phone.”: http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/

“The next threat to your privacy could be hovering over head while you walk down the street.”

“Hackers have developed a drone that can steal the contents of your smartphone—from your location data to your Amazon (AMZN, Fortune 500) password—and they’ve been testing it out in the skies of London.”

“The technology equipped on the drone, known as Snoopy, looks for mobile devices with Wi-Fi settings turned on.”

“Snoopy takes advantage of a feature built into all smartphones and tablets: When mobile devices try to connect to the Internet, they look for networks they’ve accessed in the past.”

“That’s when Snoopy can swoop into action (and be its most devious, even more than the cartoon dog): the drone can send back a signal pretending to be networks you’ve connected to in the past. Devices two feet apart could both make connections with the quadcopter, each thinking it is a different, trusted Wi-Fi network. When the phones connect to the drone, Snoopy will intercept everything they send and receive.”

I am asking this to tap into the vast tech knowledge many Jellies have to see if we can put our heads together to learn how to better protect our privacy and passwords from all these new threats from hackers.

If I get “snooped” by a drone, so be it. I refuse to be afraid of technology. I take reasonable precautions, including using 2-factor authentication, strong password generation, and monitoring my credit card and account activity daily.

I get too much value from technology, and will continue to do so without fear. The techopanic will grip some, including some of my family, and they will sit this out.

Not worried about it. Not happy about either.

I’m not at all confident my private data/information is safe, but I try not to worry about it and do whatever I can to minimize my exposure.

No, I’m not naive enough to think my information is completely secure. I don’t spend much time worrying about it either, though.

I roll old-school, which means no smartphone, no payments online unless I’m on a secure network (yes I still mail checks with no SS# on them), etc… I also cut up almost all store and credit cards a few years ago, so I could be debt-free, so not much for them to steal.

I’m with @RealEyesRealizeRealLies.

It’s pretty easy to track people down. It’s all out there. I don’t think I’m an important enough piece of the puzzle to be that concerned.
