If people care not about lurve, why are there more than four dozen questions asking about it?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) March 30th, 2014

I hear so many times people say they care not about getting lurve, counting lurve, the levels of lurve, etc. I went searching if there was a way to determine where one stood in regard to lurve I gave them to see if they were close to, or maxed out of their lifetime lurve, and I had to wade through page after page, and dozens upon dozens of questions asking about many aspects of lurve. If lurve was so insignificant and inconsequential why are there so many question pertaining to it?

Simply, the people who ask about it care about it. Whether or not they’ll admit it.

Getting close, are we?

^ Just another day at the office, however, there are some Flutheronians I hope to not max out on; but I do not give out support lurve often so…...

The real way to know would be if lurve was eradicated from Fluther, then we’d see how many people are left.

There will always be people counting “points” as caring. In other words some people feel they matter or their opinion means something if it gets a lurve or like.

There have been numerous studies done on “liking” posts on Facebook and other similar sites.

Here’s one psychologist’s take on accruing “likes”:
“And, somehow, mysteriously, that innocuous button labeled “Like” seems to carry with it a solid feeling of caring and kindness from friends, be they offline ones or solely people you know online.”

@Symbeline Many of us stayed even though it was implemented. Personally I’d be thrilled if it left, as all was fine here without it. I think we had more active users prior to lurve, than after.

@SpatzieLover There used to be a time when it wasn’t here? Heh didn’t know that.

@Symbeline Those were the days…

@Symbeline there was a time when lurve added, but there were no awards. Once the awards were implemented people went on wild lurve chases trying to get the awards.

I did at first, but I gave up, I have absolutely no idea how to get some of those awards. And I’m told some don’t work anymore, so what’s the point. Kind of seemed like a fun quest though, a bit like in a video game.

This question reminds me of a question asking about how to get a program to give the OP 100 lurves earlier…

I was pleasantly surprised today to find that a response of mine had gotten several GA’s. It’s not the lurve points per se, but it is fun to see that folks liked my answer.

At my level lurve means pretty much meaningless points wise. I get a lot of GA’s in a day and maybe 5 points added to my score. It’s the thought that counts I say.

I bet a lot of those lurve questions were asked by newer jellies unfamiliar with the nuances of our aquatic caste system.

We need a shark up in this b…DARN all this not swearing contest thing. XD

Some do, some don’t. I’ve not cared at all really. Since I’ve had about three or four accounts here and never asked for my lurv. I do secretly enjoy a GA though if the question was important. :P
