Aside from Fluther, what are some of your biggest time "wasters"?

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) April 24th, 2014

What are the three biggest deliberate “wasters” of your time, aside from Fluther? What you do instead of doing what you’re supposed to be doing? Don’t include things that potentially enrich your life, like books or newspapers, from which you may glean some actual knowledge or insight. List things that literally contribute nothing to your life other than to be vehicles for procrastination.

1. Facebook/Twitter
2. Bingo Blast on my phone
3. Reddit, specifically r/funny

Cook my own meals
Work a job
clean the house
bathe daily
exercise at least an hour a day
brush teeth and floss daily
laundry once a month or as needed

And no, these are not things I’m supposed to be doing, because I have lived part of this lifetime where I didn’t do all of these things daily

wasting time on internet sites about Travel and Tour Groups. Real Estate sites too, even though I am not planning on moving. I guess I just like to see what’s out there.

When I’m sick of the computer, then I have TV or reading. But you know what? For some reason I don’t consider reading a book wasting time.

Film noir, Japanese, English, school, Mafia books.

And most recently, Kickass Torrent.

I don’t think there is anything I do that “contributes nothing to my life other than procrastination”

Even things as silly as playing “scrabble” on FB is enjoyable to me. It also helps with certain kinds of thinking and I learn new words. If you let it, every experience whether big or small can improve your life in some way, to some degree.

Naps. I take them even when I’m not tired, because I like soft. It’s a great thing to do when you don’t know what to do, or don’t feel like doing anything.
That, or looking at some old ass video game magazines. I got way too many, and they have pictures and shit, so I don’t have to read much, but I still remember all the old memories. Then I can lay down and have a nap, and while waiting to fall asleep I wish that I could die in it, because my childhood was so much more awesome than anything else in my life. :)

Sleeping more than I should be! Total waste of life! I feel so guilty but energy levels are very low!

Since becoming a moderator, Fluther trumps all the others.

Facebook is next, as I created more than one account before they allowed customization of posts and have over 500 ‘friends’ and at least as many pages that I follow. It is where I keep up-to-date on a lot of information – things are announced there, and then I search the web for reliable sources of information on the topic. I’ve hidden most games, quizzes, and annoying crap from my feeds (I love the block feature!). I have G+ because some folks abandoned FB for it, but not many.

If I have any free time left, Instagram is my next diversion. I follow people from around the world, including many National Geographic photographers, it really has made the world seem smaller. I could get lost following geotags and hashtags on there.

Hm. WhatsApp would be one. Another is definitely the TV, when re-watching episodes of my favourite shows. When I’m cold and the radiator is hot, I often waste time by leaning against it while gazing out the window.
