Have you ever had a dream in which some ideas became clarified for you?

No, this is not one of those What does this dream mean questions.

Last night I had a dream, I was fully aware that I was dreaming and not awake. 3 different things became super clear to me and I was very excited to wake up and write these things down. The weird thing was that the concepts that made the ideas clear to me, were not related to the ideas in a way that made sense to me.

One of the ideas was that I had the complete lyrics and music to a song, an original song, that I composed in my sleep. I was singing it and I could clearly hear the tune. I couldn’t wait to wake up and somehow repeat it or write it down. In my waking life, I am not a song writer. I can’t even read or write music, but when I was asleep this song was clear as a bell, and quite catchy too, so I was very pleased with myself.

The second idea was some type of mathematical equation that became obvious to me. I can’t do math to save my life in my waking life. By the time I woke up, I had forgotten the equation, so I couldn’t write it down.

The third idea that became clear to me had to do with pi. Not the food, the mathematical concept. Like I said, math and me don’t mix, but this was different. The idea of pi, for my idea, didn’t have anything to do with numbers or math, it was a pattern for a costume design! Imagine some type of renaissance faire type of costume that was sewn, roughly, into the shape of the symbol for Pi. Imagine that to be a clothing pattern for a cloak! That was the only one of the ideas that I could actually remember.

When I was a little kid, I took ice skating lessons. For several weeks I was trying to be able to do one of the moves and just couldn’t do it. Finally, one night, I dreamed that I could see and feel the movements, and my body was doing the movements for this particular task. The next day, when I went to the rink, I was able to remember how it looked and felt in the dream and from that point on, I was able to do the move.

Have any of you ever had a dream, in which you were able to come up with something creative, like a poem, or to solve a mathematical equation or something similar? On rare occasion, I have come up with both poetry and prose, and even comedy routines in my sleep, only to wake up and not be able to remember them well enough to write them down and it really bums me out, because I had some great material.

Oddly enough, I do not dream about food or recipes. Go figure.
