How is your eating different on your days off than on the days that you're at work?

Asked by jca (36062points) July 18th, 2014

What food choices do you make on your days off that differ from the days that you work?

Is it easier for you to avoid snacking when you’re at work or when you’re off?

Do you eat more frequently when you’re at work or when you’re off?

I snack and eat less at work (after all, my food and snacks are at home).

I’m more indulgent because I have the time. Right now I am making incredible Nachos with fresh garden tomatoes, avocado, sauteed onions and home made chicken Tamales. Almost ready, just have to finish this Pacifico before the feast. haha
Work is an apple, a bite of cheese, maybe a yogurt, a few crackers. Quickie snacks.

I eat a very light breakfast on work days – an organic protein bar; and lunch is also usually pretty light. On days off I usually eat a brunch instead of the two smaller meals. Dinner varies and is similar from weekday to weekend. We don’t snack much, but pick during meal preparation and when we’re unloading the farm market goodies.

I’m a routine person, so on days I don’t have classes, I eat worse than I do when I’m in the weekday swing. Nowadays, I’m always here, so it’s all the same routine.

On days I work, at my desk at 6 a.m. I eat a structured breakfast (low carb veggie breakfast burrito, coffee) and a definitive lunch (salad) at near the same time every day.

On the weekends I may eat breakfast anytime from 6 am to 9:30, I may eat a small lunch or I might juts have celery and almond butter, or an apple and almond butter.

My dinners are consistent everyday, because I am not at work.

I eat more often on workdays, but I eat more food on weekends. We eat out quite a bit since I don’t cook on those days, so plenty of “unhealthy” choices. I log calories, but it works out because I generally eat 1600–1650 calories on weekdays and 2000–2500 on weekends, so it all evens out at 1850/day (I make sure of it), which is my goal. I eat pizza, burgers, ice cream, fries, etc. on a regular basis and still lose weight steadily. Eating less calories on weekdays is easy and I never get hungry because I eat plenty, so it’s no sacrifice.

During the work week, my lunch is pretty healthy (cucumber, turkey breast, carrots) and my dinner is good so long as my wife and I cook. Breakfast is usually a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and ice coffee on the run, as I have no time in the AM.

Weekends, I eat a healthy breakfast (kashi cereal with coconut milk or yogurt with granola).

My lunch is much smaller when I’m at work. We only get a half an hour to eat, so I don’t like to try to scarf down a big lunch. When I’m at home, lunch is usually my biggest meal.

I keep healthy snacks on hand at work for me and my co-workers. One of my co-workers is always very sheepish to try my snacks, as he is more of a Fritos and beef jerky kind of guy. I tend to bring in wasabi almonds, whole grain crackers and chips, spicy rice crackers and stuff like that. I usually drink about a half a gallon of water at work. I’d prefer to be drinking iced tea, but it’s not really convenient.

When I am home, I’m much more adventurous, I make lots of interesting salads, like This One (only I used fake bacon) but when I’m at work, I usually just to PB&J sandwiches on whole wheat, and yogurt, or some carrot sticks. I probably drink close to a gallon of fresh brewed iced tea, no sweetener, at home, on most days. I love iced tea, but it’s been so hot here for so long, that I just need a cold drink and I don’t drink soda and milk is too fattening and fruit juice, even 100% juice, has too much sugar, for how much I want to drink. Sometimes I’m surprised that I haven’t turned into a jug of iced tea.

On work days, I had small breakfasts, large lunch and dinners. On weekends, I would have a large breakfast, small lunch and dinner.
Now that I am retired, I have a mid sized breakfast, small lunch and dinner, with occasional snacking.

On my days off work I will often skip breakfast if I get up late. Also when I’m not working my mealtimes are “when I’m hungry” so it varies a lot more. I don’t eat more on my days off though.
