[NSFW] Do you know of places where a woman can be arrested or fined for wearing a thong bikini?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) August 13th, 2014

A woman, Tiara Monique Garness, age 22, was arrested at the South Carolina beach for wearing a thong bikini and not covering it up. Does this sort of thing happen in other places, or you can only expect it in the South? If one is arrested for indecent exposure, do they have to register like peeping Toms, flasher, or other people (usually men) exposing their naughty bits in public? Do you think a guy walking around the beach (or even town, or that matter) with their pants half hanging off their arse, would they have been busted or fined?

There are beaches all over the country that make thong bikini wearing against the law. Even some FL beaches (which might surprise some people since I, and I think many people, consider FL to be the land of half naked). I don’t know if there is some sort of list you can look up. I don’t know how readily they fine people, but they might ask you to cover up.

Many housing and apartment complexes have rules about it.

Edit: I found this I don’t know how accurate it is.

What we need is a scientific study of thong wearing, with a related study of law enforcement. We would have to examine butts at every beach on the east coast in order to see percentage coverage, style of thong, the material-to-skin ratio, and, most importantly, the color of the thong.

My hypothesis that a colored thong is less likely to cause an arrest than a black or white one. But the only way to determine this is to examine thong wearing on the East Coast.

No doubt, we can have a West Coast research project next summer and then compare results.

@elbanditoroso are you volunteering?

To conduct the study or to participate in the study?

@rojo – you wouldn’t want to see mine. I volunteer to observe and report on things on the Georgia coastline.

Is this a crime? I don’t know, but it should be if she doesn’t look like the girl in the above link.
If she is 250 lbs, maybe it would be better to wear such things in private.
I always told my kids “Don’t wear skin tight clothes unless your skin is tight!”

I haven’t worn my thong and string top since the late 90’s on the beaches of Australia and New Zealand. Oddly enough, if I had the huevos to wear it where I live now, no one would care.

Pornography is what happens in the viewer’s mind. Not the showers. Arrest the real pervs.

@filmfann so only fat, out of shape people should be fined, but young, good looking things should be encouraged? That really makes no sense!

@Dutchess_III Please understand that I encourage no one. I have psoriasis, which can leave huge scabby sores on ones backside. I would discourage anyone suffering from this from wearing thongs as well. Who would want to see such things? The young and thin and beautiful are less unpleasant than those I have mentioned, but they tend to bring out the perv in most of us.

I suppose a nude colored thong from a distance might look even more naked. Seeing there are so many places where thongs are legal, children having access to those areas notwithstanding, I wonder if they don’t outlaw it because the letter of the law would not support it, or if they would but would hurt tourism or something. Then again, what about someone with his pants hanging so low half or more of his skivvies showing is any better for society to look upon, I would take the thong any day.

Please elucidate, since the term ”perv” is greatly misused, misapplied, and I would say misunderstood.
