What bug [insect] annoys you the most?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) August 22nd, 2014

If you like, be seasonal.

I think the universal is cockroaches, and I hate the sneaky things.
I’ll leave the rest for others to mention.

But if someone doesn’t mention those black gnats that move a foot for every inch of your hand movement, I’ll be SO disappointed!

The mosquito , the horse fly, followed by the hornet.
and last but not least that pesky little Republican.

Scorpions. Even saying the word gives me the creeps.

Currently none. I don’t mind mosquito bites all that much, at least it doesn’t seem I react nearly as bad as most people. Stink bugs can get mildly annoying just because they cover everything but their population seems to be on the decline again. I guess the worst but I’ve had to deal with was the sandfly or more commonly referred to as no-see-ems. The thing that really sucked about these bites is just how much they’d itch. The itchiness wasn’t that bad during the day, but you would wake up at 3am just clawing at your legs or where ever the bites were.

Mosquitos buzzing in my ear. Then biting.

And I hate seeing silverfish, they just seem to be so yucky and when you touch them they squish all over.

I dislike mosquitos intensely

Insect – mosquitos. Non-insect bug – ticks.

gailcalled's avatar

The ticks are terrifying; all the rest merely annoying. The no-see-ums can drive you crazy,

mosquitoes annoy me the most, but centipedes creep me out the most.

Midgies in summer.

My favorite season is Fall, but the Asian lady beetles always ruin the enjoyment. They are everywhere and they bite. I hate them with a passion.

Top of the list has to be mosquitoes, really difficult for someone unable to use their arms.

With the pack; mosquitoes. Certainly in the mix also are those annoying flies, especially when I am eating or trying to concentrate on something, lighting on my body, buzzing my face, and when I know where they have been walking, just makes it worse. It was roaches in the past but I have not been vexed by them or hornets in eons. Once ants get in they are very annoying because they are so many and get all over, you have to blanket a whole area because you can’t isolate one ant and the problem is solved; then you have to find how they got in and kill off the trail or more of their buddies will surely come back.

Ticks.

While itchy bug bites suck, chances of getting some communicable disease from a mosquito (where I live) isn’t too high. But having to worry about catching Lyme disease while you’re trying to enjoy a nice picnic sucks.

gailcalled's avatar

Lyme, erlichiosis, Rocky Mt. spotted fever, babisiosis, anaplasmosis, tularemia, powassan; all becoming increasingly more common.

Yay. More arboviral goodies.

Palmetto bugs.

Cockroaches and locusts can send me into cardiac arrest immediately!

What an incredibly well-timed question. Last night, I noticed for the first time (perhaps because it was very close to my window) an insect that I don’t recall hearing before. It made a long chirring sound (for perhaps 5s at a time). Repeatedly. Forever. And ever. It drove me to don headphones.

Before that, however, I tried to identify it with no success. This is an urban area, in eastern North America. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. It’s so much better to be simply annoyed, than annoyed + mystified.

Wait, before you suggest it: it doesn’t sound anything like a cicada or a katydid.

ucme's avatar

Wasps, despise them with a passion.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@fluthernutter When I was in Central America on a hike in the jungle the guide warned me to always check for ticks, I asked him if ticks carried anything down here like lyme disease. Turns out they don’t carry anything and like that my concern for ticks when from normal NJ level to non existent :P

House flies.
Not only are they annoying but…they give birth to the most hideous of all insects next to ticks. MAGGOTS!
I still have not fully recovered from my maggot trauma of a few summers ago when I had a hatch in my trash can. shiver

Otherwise I am quite fond of insects and go out of my way to not kill them.

ibstubro's avatar

House centipede (I can’t link, or I would).
Spiders that are all leg and no body.

If silverfish were less sneaky, I’d think they were kind of cool.

dappled_leaves's avatar

Silverfish are pretty cool, and provide free entertainment for cats.

rojo's avatar

Those little tiny fucking flies that won’t stay out of your eyes and ears.

fluthernutter's avatar

I realize that it’s terribly unPC, but I’m totally imagining rojo as a kid on one of Sally Struther’s old commercials.

rojo's avatar

@fluthernutter Sooooooooooooo unPC! but it gets you a GA just because.
