What is a nice, cheap thank you gift?

Asked by hug_of_war (10735points) September 17th, 2014

Two of my classmates have been taking notes for me this week as I’ve been unable to attend class. We barely know each other, they certainly didn’t need to help me, they just offered knowing how hard of a time I’m going through. I’d like to do something nice, not to repay them, but just to say thank you.

So what should I do? Anything that would require a bit of time is fine, I’d appreciate the distraction.

Bake some cookies. Everybody wins.

Cookies sounds good to me. Or, send them a pizza. Pizza was always a staple late night at my colege dorm.

Another idea is gift cards for the local grocery store, starbucks, or itunes if you know they would use one of them. They come as cheap as $10 a piece I think.

Cookies is good, everyone likes them or can share if they don’t

Unless they have diabetes or some other dietary problem. I avoid food these days. Who knows what foods people do or don’t want or can’t eat.

Movie tickets, book voucher, coffee shop voucher. Or just a lovely thank you card. It’s really all you need.

I agree that a thank you card with a small gift certificate is probably the way to go.

You barely know the people and they should be wary of eating anything you give them that’s not pre-packaged. I gave up eating food from strangers when the old man at the flea market nonchalantly squished a cockroach with his thumb. As it ran across the table filled with his wife’s home made pies. Yikes.

Then, too, @Earthbound_Misfit points out, it sometimes seems as though everyone is on a specialized diet these days.

I think baked cookies is a lovely idea. Not everybody is suspicious of food gifts and something made by you is from the heart.

I am glad that you sound a lot better than you did at the weekend and also very happy to hear about the kindness of your classmates.

They’re my classmates, not strangers and as I said, even if they don’t eat them I’m sure they have people who will. I’ll definitely add a note of course.

It’s very hard still, but I try to distract myself when I can, and if I’m numb and feeling like a zombie, I just accept it’s my brain protecting me for a while so i don’t go crazy
