How do you feel about Autumn?

Asked by LornaLove (10037points) October 13th, 2014

Do you enjoy the falling/fallen leaves, the browns and oranges of Autumn? Or, does Autumn seem depressing to you? It is for me personally. Summer has gone, the trees are bare and there seems not much to look forward to, aside from cold weather. How do you like Autumn yourself and how do you celebrate it? If you also dislike it, how do you make it seem better?

it’s too cold for t shirts to warm for parkas.

I love autumn if only winter didn’t follow.

Hi chyna. I love Autumn. Crisp air, geese over head, birds coming to the feeders, warm days still, and the holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving. (My favorite holiday, a salute to gluttony.) And Christmas is coming, kids to spoil. The next season sucks.

When I live in a 4 season place I like the pretty leaves for a week. Mostly, autumn just means the cold weather is coming, and I hate that. I hate raking leaves. I hate the static on my hair from the heater being on and how dry my skin is.

I live in FL so the change of weather in October means some of the best weather is coming.

@JLeslie Weasel. I’ll send you curses when I shovel snow the first time. :)

I love it. I love the colour of the leaves and just the whole process of the changing seasons. We don’t really get Autumn here. It goes from summer to winter and back again pretty much.

Fucking. Love. It.

@adirondackwannabe I just starting checking the weather again, curious to see the cold temps more north.

Smells like death and decay. I could breathe it in all day long. :)

@JLeslie We’ve had two really hard frosts. It’s nicer now.
@AshLeigh Mortician wannabe. :)

Frosts already? What?! I missed those. I literally just started paying attention (a little) the past couple of days.

Mixed. On the one hand, I like the changing of the seasons. I don’t mind the cold.

On the other hand, I don’t like that it is dark earlier and light later.

October is absolutely my favorite month of the year! Besides being my birth month and always reminding me of happy birthdays of the past, it’s the month when the weather here (and most everywhere I’ve ever lived) turns as pleasant as it’s going to be most of the rest of the year.

Some of the nicest days of the year are during Autumn. They’re not too hot or too cold, and there’s very little humidity. My favorite color is October

I enjoy the cool evenings, clear skies, quiet foggy nights, the smells, the ripe vegetables in our garden, bonfires, corn mazes, trick-or-treating, beautiful sunsets, football, kicking fallen leaves, watching the farmers harvest their crops (and my barking dogs just ruined the beautiful moment I was having thinking about my favorite time of year.)

I like Autumn, one of the most beautiful times of year. There is a sadness about it but it isn’t depressing.

My feelings are somewhat akin to that of a leaf cascading in the cool autumnal breeze, briefly resting to bask in the crisp golden sunshine before once again being picked up & chased across the meadow by an unforgiving wind.
Yes, that’s right, I feel free godammit, if not a little unhinged.

I love autumn season, the weather is basically perfect. The days will become cool and refreshing, the summers are unbearable here in Dubai and we can hardly go out anywhere during morning hours. So autumn would be a great relief!!

I love autumn. It means that hot, humid, icky summer is gone and that makes me very happy. I will take autumn and winter over summer any day.

I could easily take 12 months of fall. The smells, the cool temperatures, the food, the sound of leaves under foot while hiking, make for an exciting time of year.

That said, I just got back from a few days of fly fishing in the northern tip of NH, where it was in the 40s. It’s currently 75 and humid here in MA. It should be warmer tomorrow. A few years ago we had snow on Halloween. Autumn can resemble summer or winter here in New England, and I think I can count the number of “true” decent fall-weather days on my hands. But those days are so beautiful, it still counts as the best season by far.

When I was young and immersed in it, Autumn was my favorite time of year. It meant gearing up for both school and Winter, and I was ready for both. I look back on those days with amazement, and simply am staggered at the thought of just how jaded and cynical I am now. Back then, I hadn’t a single thought about all of that brown and those blowing leaves as a signpost for massive death with tougher days to come. Now I live in a place where seasonal extremes are all but nonexistent. The niece in Iowa looks at pictures of me as a kid and inquires “Don’t you miss the seasons, Uncle Stan?” I tell her. “Yes dear, and as soon as I can afford the servants and staff, I’ll come back.”

I dislike autumn because it means Winter is Coming and I bleep-ing hate winter.

Autumn is my favorite time of the year by far. Nothing to me beats the feel, the smell and the pretty leaves of this time of the year, and I love the mild days and cooler nights. I also love Halloween, my favorite holiday, since I’m a big thrill and haunted house fan to begin with.

Spring is a distant second place for me. I hate traveling in bad weather during the winter, and paying for overpriced oil that doesn’t even seem to last as ling as it did 30 years ago. I can’t stand the heat and humidity of summer either.

talljasperman's avatar

Summer and winter you can die from and spring and fall are too short.

It’s so interesting to read how everyone loves a different season. Perhaps that is why there are four! For me, it is a sad time, leaves turning horrible dark colours, the cold wind and knowing winter is nearly upon us, the trees look stark and I just feel sad. I will try to find something glorious about Autumn. It does look a little Noir, a little mysterious and all the pretty red glowing lamps I have on, helps.
