If you were willing and able to move to another country, where do you live now, where would you want to settle, and why?

Asked by Pied_Pfeffer (28141points) October 15th, 2014

I’m watching a House Hunters International series and find it fascinating on why people choose to move to another country.

What would be your motivation to consider it?

For me, and I am actively thinking of this for retirement, parts of Northern Italy and parts of Southern France. It’s because of a less hectic lifestyle, healthy food, and rich cultural heritage.

New Zealand, because it’s New Zealand.

Rural France. It is very beautiful and full of history.

I currently live in the US and I would move to Ireland if I ever had the chance. Why? I love rain, cool temps, and history.

Italy, on the shores of Lake Como, or maybe Sooth Ifrikaa, just because.

I live in Australia and love it here. I moved here from the UK many years ago because I was adventurous and wanted a better standard of living. This was during the ‘Thatcher’ years. Now I’d happily live between both countries because I like each place. Since I still have that wanderlust and I’m still adventurous, if I could afford to and I didn’t have commitments and children here, I’d love to live in a different country entirely at least temporarily. I love Canada, I’d like to spend time living in Italy, France, Scandinavia (not sure which country). As long as I could come home to Australia, I think it would be fabulous to be able to immerse myself in other cultures for six months or more.

I’m in FL, USA. I would move temporarily, but probably would eventually want to come home. I would consider Italy, Japan, Singapore, actually pretty much any Western European country that I believed to be safe. Safety would be my biggest concern if I moved out of the country. It’s more about where I wouldn’t go I think. Not to the Middle East, probably not to France, not to some parts of Latin America, again for safety concerns.

I’m in OH, USA. I would like to relocate to Panama, to escape the Amerikan nut haus and the dollar is strong there.

New Zealand or Iceland as long as I could get a relatively isolated home upon or near one of those black sand beaches.

I have always dreamed to move to an English-speaking country, like the US or UK. I like the Western culture and I would like to improve my English. If I was to move to the UK, I would definitely move to London. I heard that London has the richest cultural heritage and the people are pretty cool. And if I was to move to the US, well, maybe I would settle in New York, or the wild Texas.

I live in the Midwestern US.
I wouldn’t want to ”move” to another country without visiting it first, so I’m going with…Hawaii. I liberated it in another question!

Wait! Is this a permanent or temporary move? If it’s a year or less, I need a world map with all areas that are non-hostile to a middle aged, white man from the US. I’ll pin the tail on the donkey map. Honestly, you could make a reality show of me living abroad.

I love new experiences.

Liberated HI. I love that.

I live in Illinois. If I had to move, I suppose the Bahamas. They speak English, the exchange rate is equal, there is always swimming, and diving, and boating. I love the accent.

The United Kingdom. Why? Simple. I wish to live in the land of my ancestors (Scotland on Dad’s side, England on Mom’s side).

I live in the northeastern US. I’d move to the south of France, Provence to be specific. Then I’d perfect my French, bring Milo to the local restaurants with me, and harvest lavender.

If I could do anything and be anywhere, it would be Hawaii. I have longed to go there for ages. What is not to like, the sea, the beach, sunshine, warm weather and people who understand things like health, massage and spiritual living. Of course, I could be wrong and it could be really rubbish there since I do not know that much about Hawaii. At this point cold weather, icy people and boring culture I’d pretty much move anywhere warm, even if there were famine there! As long as the people were kind and danced to the beat of drums.

Darth_Algar's avatar

Odd, I could have sworn that Hawaii was part of the United States. Did something change recently that I’m unaware of?

Here2_4's avatar

@Darth_Algar – maybe. @LornaLove lives in the UK
.
Besides that, @ibstubro liberated Hawaii a couple of weeks ago.

LornaLove's avatar

@Darth_Algar It is and not sure of your point?

@LornaLove

I was under the mistaken impression that you were in the US. My mistake.

I really enjoyed our stay on Tortola BWI. That was a few years ago and I hope it remains as wild and uncommercialized as it was then. I wish to step back from first world and maybe go back to a 2nd world country. I am too old for the rigors of living in too primitive surroundings.
